I am attempting to install the DD-WRT firmware on my Archer C7 v2. The instructions on this site say to upgrade to 150427 first, but the earliest version listed on the site is the 160616. I tried the hosted firmware package but it gives me the error "Error code: 18005 Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name". I have confirmed I have a hardware version Archer C7 v2 00000000.

It does specifically use the term "Upgrade" and I currently have 180114 installed. Is that why it will not accept the older firmware so I can start installing DD-WRT? If so how am I supposed to roll back to an older firmware? I haven't been able to find anything.

You will probably have to do a TFTP flash/recovery to the specified version.

From recent personal experience with the TP-Link Archer C7 v2, the following worked for me:

Since your router is already running the latest US firmware version, Archer C7(US)_V2_180114, the intermediary step for 'upgrading' to Archer_C7_V2_150427 is unnecessary. Just follow the rest of the installation steps in the guide provided by msoengineer--starting with 'Reset to TP-Link factory defaults', and use the currently latest 'factory-to-ddwrt-US.bin' file available at:

https://dd-wrt.com/support/other-downloads/?path=betas%2F2020%2F08-22-2020-r44236%2Ftplink_archer-c7-v2%2F

Note that there are three regionally different versions of the v2. Be sure to use the applicable firmware version.

Please also note that the default web UI access is different between TP-Link at 192.168.0.1 and DD-WRT at 192.168.1.1.

I ended up trying this method before the next post and it worked out. I had to TFTP to the old firmware DD-WRT suggests to start from, and from there I could upgrade to DD-WRT normally. Works like a charm now. Thanks for the help.

I believe there's little hardware difference universally for the Archer C7 v2 routers. The different firmware versions are intended for the different operating localities, mainly due to regional WiFi requirements and regulations. Thus, pick and use the version where you'll be using your Archer C7 v2.

My C7 V2.0 IL version was downgraded with very old version of TP-Link from this site and now it is free. Now I use an "international" versions, not for Israel. Nothing different in hardware but firmware region code.

You're in the USA, so use the US version.
