Hi, I bricked my Dir 895l and I am trying to start a serial connection but when I start putty nothing shows up on the putty screen, ie the putty screen stays blank when the router is turned on.
All the putty settings are setup as 115200/8/None/1/None in both the COM port's settings and PuTTY. Also I enabled VT100 line.
The router just stays with a solid white power light after I turn it on. It's supposed to blink orange. I tried using the reset option but no change.
Anyone know why the putty window would show any info on boot up?
I have the serial connection on the board setup correctly based on google reviews and the basic D-Link setup on other routers.
check serial pins are correct with multimeter, find 5v using earth/ground on a shield or some earth point on board, then once you found 5v pin, find ground/earth pin, then the 2 left over are rx & tx
if you get gobbley gook putty output change rx and tx around, don't connect serial to 5v pin!
hope this helps sorry dont have or used your router to help further.

That is highly possible. TP-Link has a bad habit of doing such things to their routers do you can't attach a proper serial terminal, so I wouldn't be surprised if that is the issue. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

As I don't have a soldering iron and the pins which need to bridged are extremely small, do you think me bridging the two ends with a screwdriver or some other type of metal would allow me to test it out? If it temporarily shows a putty output then I would go out and buy a soldering iron to further attempt to fix this router.
