It sounds to me like Buffalo buyers will soon find firmware based on DD-WRT from the factory. Sound good to me! _________________ DD-WRT<--Have you contributed to DD-WRT yet?
This is a smart decision of Buffalo. Everything to gain- fan base, new converts, enthusiasts, etc.. Smaller companies have smarter and more innovative CEOs.
This nice, but I do wonder if Buffalo will get to a point they want DD-WRT as a paid firmware for everyone. Sounds paranoid I know, but a company is a company.
Will this partnership affect the way DD-WRT is distributed now?
I would sure hate to see such a nice firmware ruined by big company politics.
Thanks for all your hard work that helps so many of us out here.

Hello ppcrusa,
Buffalo wanted to have a dd-wrt version for their routers.
Since buffalo is a vendor, they are not interested in a "paid version", they know that the community behind dd-wrt is very good, and there is no plan to change that. (Basicly, that is why buffalo decided to go with us).
dd-wrt will stay open source.
The partnership will not affect the way dd-wrt is distributed, but this partnership gives us more time for development, so updates and newer version will come out earlier. While producing the buffalo version, we have heavily tested the v24 line, and you see the "output" on this in the RC4-Builds.
Another important thing to say is, that the "normal dd-wrt" is still the "main-line", so please don't worry. _________________ NewMedia-NET GmbH

I see on the front page there's a pic of the box for a new Buffalo model: WHR-HP-G54DD. Is this just the same WHR-HP-G54 hardware with DD-WRT loaded onto it? Will we be seeing any other models pre-loaded with DD-WRT? Any idea of about when it's expected to hit retail channels?

Sooner or later DD-WRT will end up as a closed commercial product.
It just did. Look at the announcement on the front page. Congrats DD ! _________________ http://69.175.13.131:8015 Streaming Week-End Disco. Station Ripper V 1.1 will do.
The funny part will be government compliance. You'll probably still have to install mainline DD-WRT to overcome the power transmission limits. _________________ DD-WRT<--Have you contributed to DD-WRT yet?

The download section is still open. You had better get busy. _________________ http://69.175.13.131:8015 Streaming Week-End Disco. Station Ripper V 1.1 will do.

Think you might be overreacting a little here? A site admin just a few post ago spelled it out pretty clearly

This deal could not have been put together overnight, or a few months I would imagine. If the intention was to stop providing a free dd-wrt, dont you think we would have stopped seeing updates when the deal started looking good? I look at this as an opportunity for the developers to concentrate on the firmware and not worry about support. I say congrats and rock on _________________
Basically, that doesn't mean buffalo just 'bought' DD-wrt, but that buffalo will just buy some of their firmware from dd-wrt, if i understand correctly?
so:
-more work for BS, as he'll have to work on specific versions for buffalo (skin, legal restriction on the xmit power, etc..)
-but Also more money, that means a better chance for the DD-wrt project to stay alive on the long term
-More visibility for the DD-wrt brand
-More visibility for Buffalo (who would have bought a buffalo router here if it wasn't for dd-wrt?)
-For us, the ability to run DD-wrt out-of-the-box and without having to blow the warranty of our purchase.
looks like a good news, overall..
Now we just have to wait for a Buffalo™ Brainslayer® edition router with lots of ram and stuff

i really don't understand some comments here, but i am open for questions.
Feel free to ask me personally.
One thing: We are moving our servers theses days, the www-server is already moved.
The svn server is moved this night, so svn will be offline for the next couple of hours.
THAT DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH OUR NEW PARTNERSHIP!
