Router/Version: Asus RT-AC3100
File/Kernel: asus_rt-ac3100-firmware.trx (exp)/Linux 4.4.229 #459 SMP Fri Jul 3 08:13:55 +04 2020 armv7l
Previous/Reset: 43652/No (upgraded via Web UI)
Mode/Status: NAT, AP, Wireguard Client VPN (site-site), No DHCP/DNS
Issues/Errors: Upgrade to 43718 bricked router

Had to use Asus Recovery utility to reload 43652. When it did, it restored configuration so router started working again as configured prior to upgrade. As router is heavily used, I will wait until next release to retry upgrading.

Router/Version: Asus RT-AC68U
File/Kernel: asus_rt-ac3100-firmware.trx (exp)/Linux 4.4.230-rc1 #481 SMP Thu Jul 9 01:31:13 +04 2020 armv7l
Previous/Reset: 43718/No (upgraded via Web UI)
Mode/Status: Repeater, OpenVPN, Access Point
Issues/Errors: VAP

I wanted to share my version of the startup script workaround to address the Virtual Access Point (VAP) problem.

stopservice lan;
startservice lan;
wlconf eth1 down;
wlconf eth2 down;
wlconf eth1 up;
wlconf eth2 up;

My router is an AC68U setup as a repeater (not repeater bridge) with vpn for use with public wifi with no encryption. 5ghz physical interface is set to repeater with virtual interfaces on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

The other wlconf startup scripts fixed 2.4ghz virtual but 5ghz virtual remained problematic. I'm surprised something like this hasn't been patched yet.

It cannot be patched by ddwrt dev because they just import brcm wl driver . Broadcom driver developer must patch it.

Many thanks to BS and those who run this forum for all the hard work you all put in! Cool

if is not asking to much can u tell if the SAMBA is working in your RT-AC68U.

If anyone has this model of router, can also comment on the matter of samba, I will be grateful since I`m holding on v3.0-r43136 std (05/13/20) due the instability of SAMBA in post firmware`s released.

It appears to be working in my limited quick test. (r43800, 07/14/2020 version) However this is the first time I've plugged in a USB stick to test it, but I was able to access the share I setup from a wired client with a username/password.

2x Netgear 7000p Routers.

Flashed from scratch, reset and only upper 5Ghz channels will show on 20mhz. If you select 40mhz or 80mhz some of these channels disappear when save/applied.

If you revert back to 20mhz the upper channels will show up again. (save/applied)

I can't get the lower channels to appear.

Completely glazed over the workaround in the other thread:
Code:
nvram set brcm_unlock=1
nvram commit
nvram reboot

Tried this work around and it doesn't work unfortunately. It applied them and reboots but I still can't see all the 5Ghz channels.

You have to do it in a certain order.
Per Yngve Berg wrote:
1) set the Channel Width and Save.
2) Set the Extension Channel UU, LL or UL and save
3) The channel list will now show legal channels with the settings 1-2. Select channel and apply.

Might as well flash 43813 before you get too far into it. Really wish you would've focused on a single release thread.

Update:

I flashed the kong build as you sugguested, did an nvram erase, setup the wifi, upgraded to the later DD-WRT without doing a reset or erase and I although the channels are listed I can't get it to turn on the radio on these channels. The only channel that will come up are the ones that are listed if I hadn't done it this way so it seems to do no good doing it this way.

I'm wondering if maybe my R7000p is a different hardware version than others and that is why I'm having issue with the 5G?

I'd be happy to run whatever commands to get you the information, I can even open it if that helps.

It would be really nice if the 5Ghz worked with the later builds if there is a way to fix it. Smile

Can't fix proprietary drivers and radio chipset firmware binary blobs and make things work or stable. It might be different if the actual proprietary source code for the wireless drivers and firmware were available. I will look at which channels do and don't work on mine tomorrow.

Thanks, I didn't know what was all involved but I appreciate you looking into it to see if anything is possible.

Personally I use PFSense and Ubiquity AP's but I am using these R7000p's at family members.

Cheers
