Hello all, so I bought a Linksys E1550 router in hopes that I would be able to get the BIG DD-WRT image working on it as I require usage of features that come on that image (VPN protocol support, etc,.) I received the router in the mail and successfully flashed the "initial flash" image, which goes by the name of "dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e1550.bin", as the "Install Guide" said to do. The install guide linked me to the DD-WRT FTP server in order to download the firmware image you actually want on the router (such as the BIG and MEGA images.) I downloaded the "dd-wrt.v24-43516_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k.bin" image from the FTP server and used the firmware upgrade web interface to flash the image. The "install guide" made it very clear that ONLY images that include "nv60k" in the name would work. The image I attempted to flash seemed to meet all the requirements so I proceeded to flash this image as it is the latest K2.6 release as of writing this. After telling me it had successfully flashed the image, the web interface failed to response. I tried doing a 30/30/30 reset and power cycling it multiple times with generous amounts of wait time in between each attempt. I read the "Recover From A Bad Flash" guide and followed the instructions there. In an attempt to unbrick the device I flashed the stock firmware and the mini DD-WRT firmware over TFTP, none of which worked. I have no clue what could have happened and am looking for some insight on how I can fix the problem and, if possible, some insight as to what I did wrong. Thanks in advance! Very Happy

For some reason, I have a suspicion that upgrading from 21676 does not work right in all cases, OR, you were using a Chromium-based browser.

Use Firefox ESR, preferably v52 portable edition for flashing and accessing the webUI.

Also, recovery from a bad flash if the router doesn't have a management mode can be done via the Linksys TFTP program or tftpd32 v4.52 32-bit standard edition server/client software with "Use Anticipation Window of 1024 bytes" under settings for TFTP checked. Stock firmware or trailed DD-WRT image required.

Recommended order of installation and upgrade:

21676 mini trailed
21676 mega nv60k k26
35531 mega nv60k k26
35531 mega k3x*
42954 mega k3x
43028 mega k3x (k4.x)*
43516 mega k3x

* resets required

I will attempt the recovery with both those TFTP clients, I was using the built-in TFTP client in Windows so that may work. Also I am attempting to install the latest BIG build rather than the MEGA build as it has NTFS support. Should the upgrade path you have given me also work for BIG? Or should I install all those MEGA images then upgrade to the BIG image at the end. I will report back if I can, or cannot, get it working. Thanks!

I just attempted to flash both the stock firmware and the trailed DD-WRT build, none of which worked, with the Linksys TFTP client. The Linksys TFTP client definitely does something different though as the power light turned off after the flash for the stock firmware and remained on after the flash for the trailed DD-WRT build. I power cycled the router after flashing both firmware versions which did not help. The local IP 192.168.1.1 is available for TFTP during boot and then once it seemingly boots up 192.168.1.1 goes away and the router is stuck in IP assignment mode. I can see this when I do "ipconfig" in the terminal. 192.168.1.1 never gets set as my default gateway after rebooting however it does get set as the default gateway before rebooting after the flash. There is no accessible Web Console however... Perhaps the power LED is indicating something? Any thoughts? Thanks!

The problem is, there is no K3x big build for this router, and you will get to a point where you can no longer upgrade to a working firmware with K26.

I guess you can try to see if this one has management mode and try to upload stock firmware from there and start over:

https://www.linksys.com/ro/support-article?articleNum=140001

When you do TFTP flash, you set a static IP address on your PC. You ping -t 192.168.1.1, click "put" on the TFTP client as you apply power to the router. You may have put yourself in a position that requires serial recovery... maybe not.
