I guess I'm less the novice Smile

Could some one please elaborate steps 5. and 6. I'm not sure where to set static IP exactly.

Do I have to do that under Ethernet card properties?

Could some one also elaborate how to set TfTP server?

I'm not even sure I bricked my router, but after update to hard reset I can't open web gui. Weird thing is that lan network is named after old vlan network and I can't connect to it. I can also see vlan network named DD-WRT, which I can connect to (no password required), but in both case web gui can't be accessed.

Guys,

I installed the lastest beta DD-WRT for the whr-600d 10-30-2015-r28054 and it's not working. Everything works including the GUI access but the WAN is not working. I tried DHCP and static IP for the WAN but neither works. Also, I can not down grade to any other version. When I try to install, the install process go through its normal process but upon a reboot, version r28054 still show as installed. Any help would be appreciated.

I used the web gui to flash to Buffalo-DD-WRT (the profession fw), and tried to flash to OpenWRT from there.

I was not able to get the tftp working, no matter what I tried. I used MAC OSX tftp client, trying to PUT the fw in during a reboot. Tried using a tftp server as well, in the hopes that the router would GET the fw. Does not matter if I pressed the AOSS button or not. Even tried the Dickson method.

Finally tried the DD-WRT r24461 that was suggested here. Used the buffalo_whr_600d-webflash.bin
via the Buffalo-DD-WRT gui. Worked with no problems (at least have not detected any so far...).

Seems that an easy way to get to a working DD-WRT is:
-update to Buffalo-DD-WRT (the professional fw)
-update to DD-WRT
all via the web gui.

Hello all,
Recently I found my old Buffalo whr-600d. I wanted to use as an access point/range extender. from the research I did and trial and error i found that the latest Version that i could install was build 24461 (06/23/14). I flashed firmware-us.bin from multiple builds and they all make the router boot loop.i was able to recover to stock firmware every time using tftpd server.
I was wondering if anyone had luck with a newer build.

Are you sure it's a US, and not an EU or JP? Found some older versions of stock firmware previously mentioned in the thread:

Most recent public release of DD-WRT:

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2020/06-25-2020-r43516/buffalo_whr_600d/

It is interesting that I went through their support site and found stock and dd-wrt based firmware:

Thanks @ kernel-panic69

here are the steps and pictures. i take to try to flash the firmware

1. I downloaded the files from the DDWRT ftp site. I downloaded the 3 versions Firmware-US,EU,JP

2. first i do 30/30/30 reset. from the stock buffalo GUI i tried to flash the EU then JP version and both file gave me an error that says invalid firmware

3. i flash the firmware-us

4. the router starts to flash its lights as it flashes the firmware.

5. the routers top light stays on. left it alone for 15mins+ and tried a 30/30/30 reset with out change.

6. the network connection adapter on my pc cycle from identifying and network cable unplugged

7. only way for me to access anything on the router is to restore original buffalo firmware. with the tftpd and firmware_WHR600D.ram

8. after i regain access to the buffalo GUI i downloaded the older version Firmware-us.bin from /betas/2014/06-23-2014-r24461/buffalo_whr_600d/ and flash it like before.

9. after a couple of minutes i am able to access DDWRT gui

10. after downloading the newest buffalo_whr_600d-webflash.bin from DDWRT. i try to flash it and the router goes into a boot loop once again. i also tried other versions from random dates with same results.

was there anything i missed? the switch on the back of the router is currently set to "Auto" but have tried "Router" . maybe the router is just bad.

Did you try the linked "professional" firmware from the buffalo site to install DD-WRT? Only thing I can think of is that it is a firmware image size issue. Only way to verify that is trying to flash the upgrade via ssh/telnet or tftp:

I reverted to build 24461 since that was booting. from there i used telnet to log in to the router and tried flashing the updated firmware from there. however after the reboot command the its back to boot loops.

Looks like it may be time for a USB-UART TTL serial adapter and bringing up the serial console to see what's breaking. So, flashing the latest (43516) webflash.bin doesn't work from the 1.50 firmware that I linked? Here's all the (other) links off softpedia. I'm at a loss, I don't have this device in hand to offer any magic voodoo.

EDIT: Try without the 'erase nvram' command at the end. Not necessarily required once you are on DD-WRT. Also, there's a de-brick post earlier in the thread that mentions serial recovery using the firmware.uimage file. I have an idea that
may be the extreme option. Also, the webflash.bin is to be used from the factory firmware webUI as best I gather reading through all the threads.

I couldn't find my adapter, so i had to order a new one. i will report back once i have the data. probably day or 2.

when i try to flash buffalo_whr_600d-webflash.bin from factory UI it give me an invalid firmware error. it wants the firmware-us.bin file.

also in the factory ui, i the option for downloading stock firmware.i have tried from the newest(2.91) to oldest (1.0) once i flash DDwrt firmware. router boot loops.

finally i did try to flash using telnet with out erase nvram with same result.

There is a possible usable webflash.bin file earlier in this thread. Only other suggestion is to try firmware.uimage via factory webUI. Otherwise, go back to page 2 and try the tftp recovery method. FWIW, I have one of these en route that I found on eBay for dirt cheap. I also recommend using Firefox ESR, possibly an older version, like 52 portable for flashing via webUI. In private mode, no extensions installed. That may not cure the invalid firmware image error message, but it is worth a try as far as anything else preventing upgrade. I would also roll back to v1.00 and do a complete reset on the router to defaults to see if there is other issues. Not sure at what factory firmware version that the encryption check started, which may prevent flashing.

ok i have the adapter and here are the logs
1. full boot up from stock buffalo firmware 1.0 to flash firmware-us.bin r43516

also the earlier webflash bin was r23919. currently i've been able to successfully flash r24461.

i can boot to r24461 and try to webflash to 43516 and get those logs if you think it may help.
