I have my R7000 running Kong's 36070M currently and would like to update to something more recent like r43290 (05/29/20). Is clearing the settings mandatory or will the update just work?

Coming from such an old build I would reset.

1. Upgrade without resetting
2. Log in to the new build with CLI (telnet/Putty):
nvram erase && reboot
3. Put settings in manually do not restore from a backup

Before doing make screenshots of your settings Smile

Thanks for the advice. This particular router is located remotely. Is there any way/diagnostic to know if clearing the settings is required? I'd prefer not to do it if at all possible.

Just update and then check syslog for any errors

Thank you for the advice. The update worked and I am back in the web UI. Everything seems fine. Do you see any red flags?

Thank you for the advice. The update worked and I am back in the web UI. Everything seems fine. Do you see any red flags?

what i'd say is, monitor the performance and see if you have any complaints, you should be fine.

i upgraded R6300v2 remotely from 35550M to recent build, didnt touch anything and no complaints so i am leaving it as is, i planned to do a reset and setup when i visit but i didn't need to so i left it alone.

DHCP, IP range 192.168.1.100 -- 192.168.1.149

This is a bad idea. 100 is not a binary round number.

Use 64 entries from 192.168.1.128, then you can reference them in a firewall rule with CIDR notation (192.168.1.128/26).
