Good Evening,

I have been reading up on DD WRT and I am interested in using it for the new x10 I have coming. Doing a few things with some static routes to VLAN's and a guest network are what I am most excited about.

The very general question I have is this.. do you still need to do the 30:30:30 reset before and after the flash is successful OR do you just upload the image and you are good to go? I know that is a very basic question but I really want to make sure I am doing this right before bricking my device so please understand that.

Thank you

30-30-30 is not required on the R9000. If you had found the applicable forum threads and other documentation on the forum, you would have already known this.

After a verifying successful flash and reboot into DD-WRT, telnet in then "nvram erase && reboot" to clear stock configuration.

You can alternatively perform a hardware reset with the reset button. R9000 user manual states to hold it for at least 7 seconds.

You should be running the latest available build, so here is today's firmware.

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2020/05-22-2020-r43217/netgear-r9000/

New builds pop up here. https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2020

Build threads for user feedback and reports are in the Atheros forum. Today's example is New Build - 05-22-2020 - r43217.

Some people have problems with attempting a firmware upgrade using Chrome or Chromium-based web browsers.

Waterfox Classic (scroll down), Pale Moon, Firefox Portable Legacy 52, Internet Explorer or Safari should all be okay.

The factory file is designed for the first flash from stock netgear firmware's web interface, or for TFTP recovery if needed.

There is no need to flash the webupgrade after the factory file as the resulting install is the same.

The webupgrade binary is for when a newer build comes along that tempts you to upgrade an existing install of DD-WRT.

If you are still having problems it's probably a software firewall or security software getting in the way.

It's advisable to flash over a verified working Ethernet cable connected to a LAN port on the router.

There are a number of members here with an X10, myself included. DD-WRT works well on it. I encourage you to try it, but please do some reading here before posting a new thread with a basic question. There is a *ton* of info here, you just need to dig a little. Smile
