Bypassing the router the VPN connection works, so maybe this version of firmware has some issues.

That would have been nice to know, yesterday. Not sure what is causing the issues, but I guess roll back to the other mentioned builds and roll the dice.

EDIT: The *only* thing I could suggest to test is putting your Asus WAN IP as the DMZ host on your ISP equipment's config, if it's possible. Double-NAT'ing could be the issue.

I don`t have access to my ISPs equipment, so I`ll stick with the direct connection for today. Later I will try an older version of dd-wrt.

Anyway, THANK YOU for your time and help!

Have a nice day everyone!

I downgraded the firmware to v3.0-r42617 and the VPN is working fine.
Thank you all for your support!

Not sure if any commits since the latest versions you tried may have fixed the issue, but at your leisure, you may wish to test today's release:

Have you tested 43099?

New Build - 05/09/2020 - r43099

Need to track down in which release this "broke", if possible, or at least verify the last known working build so I can ping BrainSlayer.

I will test each single release starting from 42460 where it works. However I have to routers (internal used just as a switch and external connecting to ISP), so to be correct need upgrade both each time. Furthermore I am at different location at the moment, not sure if this is good idea to do it over VPN as I will lose eventually connection to the router. Will come back with findings.

I have followed the post below setting up the startup commands, and restarting the router; the problem was solved and I can connect the PPTP VPN to my work network.

Note that I was using a Ralink router with build r43099, but I believe the problem was the same. YMMV.

Thanks for digging that out of the trenches, Rocket222. I had completely forgotten about that workaround.

As a workaround, you can try adding this to your startup script in Administration->Commands (edit if you already have a startup script and add to the bottom, or save startup if you don't have one):

/sbin/insmod xt_connmark
/sbin/insmod xt_mark
/sbin/insmod nf_conntrack_proto_gre
/sbin/insmod nf_conntrack_pptp
/sbin/insmod nf_nat_proto_gre
/sbin/insmod nf_nat_pptp

Seen it in Rocket222 post, tested right now with 05-09-2020-r43099 and it works fine.

However I do understand this is not the final solution. Will you report this to BrainSlayer?

Yes, I will check for an open ticket first and then link it in my email. I really don't know how this got broken over the past several releases other than other VPN things have been being worked on.

EDIT: This is an issue where neither PPTP client nor PPTP server is configured on the router, correct? If so, then this may just have to be the solution, because I don't think there is really a way to fix this without configuring to connect to your VPN on the router level.
