Router Model: wndr3700v4
updated without reset from r42460 to r42872 via web interface. After update, web interface is no longer accessible, can't ssh into it, no internet connectivity.

Router still responds to pings, LEDs appear normal.

Any ideas for recovering my device?

Did you try power-cycling it?

Put it in recovery mode.
Hold reset button in at power on. Continue holding and power indicator will flash amber then flash green.
You can then TFTP firmware to it at 192.168.1.1
Set static IP on your computer in the 192.168.1.x subnet.

Use this firmware --
https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2014/10-29-2014-r25203/netgear-wndr3700v4/wndr3700v4-factory.img
or you can also use ---
https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2014/11-07-2014-r25279/netgear-wndr3700v4/wndr3700v4-factory.img
I've used them both at times to recover the wndr37000v4

Many others will work but this is best to TFTP. Just don't use any newer firmware with larger
file size cause TFTP thru recovery will nearly always fail with just a few blocks remaining.

After r23503 wndr3700v4-factory.img is installed you can use webif to install
whatever wndr3700v4-webflash.bin you want to use.

Remember the WNDR3700v4 is slow to fully boot so be patient.

iffin you install last dd-wrt 'wndr3700v4-webflash.bin' you had on it all your settings should be intact and just fine
that is if you don't reset the silly thing .... just thinking it's prolly 'bout time you do a good reset.

mine is all good

No luck Sad I set the static IP address on my PC to 192.168.1.2, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1. I powered on the router and held the reset button until the power LED was flashing green. But I can't ping 192.168.1.1. I don't get network unreachable, ping just waits for a response indefinitely. tftp 192.168.1.1 also doesn't work, I get transfer timed out after a while (and no indication that data is being uploaded.)

I tried connecting my PC to different ports on the router, it made no difference.

Can the router restore firmware from a USB stick? Or is there anything else I can try?

remember when it boots dd-wrt it's IP will be whatever it previously was.... whatever you had it set at....not necessarily 192.168.1.1 or not necessarily in the /24 netmask either Razz

But the bootloader is at 192.168.1.1.

The instructions given above seem a little unclear to me if they are all you're using. You need to hold the reset button in as you power on and keep it held in until the power LED is flashing and, if I remember correctly, has changed color.
