This thread is for feedback on beta build r42803 for developers and users (configuration, status, errors & logs).
Avoid discussions, create a new thread for specific problems, questions or use search as this is not for support.
Please report hardware model, version, operating & wireless modes along with file name (factory, webflash).
Important: if reporting issues, provide applicable info (syslog output, 'dmesg', 'cat /var/log/messages', etc.)
or place into an SVN ticket. For firewall issues, also provide iptables info ('iptables -L', 'iptables -t nat -L', & the /tmp/.ipt file).
Be sure to include operating and wireless modes (Gateway, AP, CB, etc.) along with any relevant configuration information.
Flashing any beta build assumes you are responsible, have researched, know the risks and recovery methods.
If you don't understand your router, which file or recovery methods do NOT flash this experimental test build.
Notes: 1. CVE-2019-14899 VPN fix from December, since then various revisions including recently 7024.
2. In-kernel Samba has been implemented this year and default min/max versions have changed, WSD now supported.

R9000, Came from 42790 nightly. Had issue after reboot. DHCP server stopped running. Had to hard reboot and everything back to normal. Coincidentally, DD-wrt was having server issues last night around 11:00-12:00 -6GMT. At first, I thought DNS was totally bunked and not resolving, then learned that dd-wrt.com was having its own issues last night. All seems normal now.
Not sure if it's a result of Comcast and Covid-19 and extra home usage in the neighborhood or if something else is up...
I am not convinced I like the new IRQ "balancing" across 4 cpu's...I'll need to experiment more late at night when people are sleeping in my house and the hood... _________________ FORUM RULES

that's all I've found so far... I am sure BS made notes/code comments how to use it within the code, but haven't dug deep yet.
I assume you need to turn off DNSMASQ to use SMART DNS...based on what I can tell in the SVN.
I'm not sure who made the request to add it...maybe they can chime in.
I would assume that using smartdns will leak your DNS?
4.How to avoid DNS privacy leaks... By default, smartdns will send requests to all configured DNS servers. If the upstream DNS servers record DNS logs, it will result in a DNS privacy leak. To avoid privacy leaks, try the following steps:
Use trusted DNS servers.
Use TLS servers.
Set up an upstream DNS server group.
well...overall it seems decent, as it has tls, https, ipset, adblocking and tons of other settings, it will be cool to use it instead of Stubby/DNSmasq ...
what i didn't see on the man page is support of DNScrypt _________________ Atheros

This is a new feature as of this build.... and no, there are no code comments on how to use it yet that I saw in the commits. Let's just throw this into the mix and not fix open tickets ... I think it's meant to be used in place of stubby or something, I don't know yet. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

I would like to upgrade to this version, unfortunately I'm currently on a old version (TP Link WDR3600 / r33555 std (10/20/17)). Do you guys have any advice in the best way of upgrading (besides upgrading through cable)?

I'm sorry, you are right. I read over the first part, my apologies.
My advice for the next time if you want people to join this community and actually be helpful. Help and then point out what they could do better. Some people here are still human. Thank you!

You answered your own question, though. Upgrade via wired ethernet. What other advice would there need to be, specifically, other than research the build threads for known issues reported for your device? There is an open WIP wiki for your router, with no documentation on how to actually flash it, caveats, etc. etc. etc. If it were more complete, I would've linked it. If I could find a specific forum thread for it, I would've linked it.
I must admit, it IS the lack of reporting and participation that needs to be fixed, but there's a whole lot that needs to be fixed around here. Sorry if my immediate response bothered you, but that is part of what needs to be fixed, all the confusing tangents in the build threads. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

How do you tell if there are changes for a given router? Looking at changes in certain kernel version tells me that they are not relevant for my very old and weak WR740N but are any changes relevant for a micro build? Most of the commits are for smartdns which is not going to be on it. Can someone give me some hints on what to look for?

after GUI install over r42783 unbound no worky and
NO wireless clients on main net would get a DHCP IP.
clients br1 would get DHCP & internet and resolve ok but it has target DNS so it bypasses unbound.
of course I cannot get to router webif from br1 because it is restricted --- manual reboot and it seemed to reslove local DNS.
after clicking apply settings in main setup page few times unbound finally showed in processes to come up and seemed to work ok.
It was ok but after all that mess I just disabled unbound and disabled JFFS2, rebooted router and now just using what I have set --- openNIC DNS.
br1 net uses QUAD9 DNS.
static leases
VLAN on port4 + ath0.1 VAP via br1 all ok
ath0 / ath1 good
ovpn server good
local DNS good
samba share good
HFSC CAKE good as always
Working fine so far ... uptime 16:23
NOTE: on EA8500 smartassDNS was there but NOT in this build.
