I'm trying to deal with the fact that now several of us are working at home connecting to separate work environments with separate apps. Two win 10 computers and a mac computer. One win10 is connecting via cisco vpn and using msteams for web calls. The other win10 is connecting via some other vpn (I forget which at the moment) and using skype for web calls. The mac is not connecting with a vpn and is using zoom and gotomeetings via a mac client. At times, audio has been choppy on all three computers.

I have a basic understanding of QOS on dd-wrt and have set up a couple of rules in the past (netflix and skype, though I think now skype should have been skypetoskype).

My questions are:

1. for the win10 using ciscovpn, is adding ciscovpn the correct way to apply QOS to the msteams audio traffic?
2. if the above answer is no, what is the correct way?
3. how does one add a new service? In particular, for zoom and gotomeetings. In particular, I'm not clear on service name - I assume this must match something at the level7 layer but I don't know how I determine that.

Thank you all for your time and help.

Stay healthy & safe.

Rob

Hi,
Thanks for asking this question - I have the same one as a matter of fact. Did you ever make progress on this?

I was hoping that some of the info on these pages

https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/categories/200110033
http://onlinezoomappdownload.com/administrator-qos-dscp-marking-for-zoom-app/
https://community.cisco.com/t5/routing/needing-an-example-of-cisco-qos-for-zoom/td-p/3919903

would help, but am not sure. Unfortunately, I am not on calls regularly enough to be able to test. My initial thought was that at least "sip" should be prioritized (???)

Regards,
Matt

No answers yet. I did add change my QOS services but I don't know if they are helping much or at all.

Ciscovpn / Express
SkypetoSkype / Express

Haven't done anything yet with Zoom, partially because I got distracted. Thanks for bringing me back to this.

I saw that 2nd link on DSCP marking but I wasn't clear on how to apply that to my router. I think that's about a corporate network setup vs a home network setup, but maybe the same can be applied. Thanks for the links.

I'm a couple of steps closer to understanding the QOS service filters. They are Level7 filters and these filters are more than just port and protocol filters. I found this dump of /etc/l7-protocols/* in DD-WRT (from 2012 I think): https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/QoS_Filter_Definitions

Now I'm trying to figure out:

1. how do you add your own filters?
2. how do you figure out which existing filter to use, especially when there are multiple similar names (e.g. skype) or when the filter name is cryptic or at least not obvious
