He completely ignored the bouncing red ball. All of the patches I listed were for reference. What actually fixed the issue in OpenWRT were the combination of all, but specifically the last two patches, one for the driver and one for the dts file. I guess we'll see what we see when we see it. Hold on to your bricks.

Confused

If the revert and two ynezz commits are all that's needed, why didn't you say that to begin with?

Why include a hack from dissent1 that didn't even work?

Combine this with a wall of links, two of which are really long discussions, with no explanation is confusing.

It's also a waste of other people's time. Context is everything.

if y'all done goofin around maybe yous folks with the EA8500 u-boot version:
U-Boot 2012.07 [Standard IPQ806X.LN,r40331] (Oct 12 2015 - 17:00:55)
1.0.12

can try this and see if BS fixed the reboot problem ---
'EA8500 r42617'

both my EA8500 are:
U-Boot 2012.07 [Standard IPQ806X.LN,r40331] (Mar 16 2015 - 16:29:21)
CBT U-Boot ver: 1.0.9

soft reboot using r42617 still works just fine with mine but they both always did with previous builds anyways.

The revert appears to be only the first step and doesn't include a two-part fix from ynezz.

I'm not even sure if those two commits mentioned in ticket #6467 reflect the finalized code that ended up in 19.07...

Maybe OpenWRT currently has the revert and nothing else?

It seems ynezz gave up as he didn't have physical access to the hardware.

Switch should be functional after reboot though, I'm still reading.

Read my updated comment prior to yours in the ticket. I will roll a 42617M in the morning and test it on 1.0.12 u-boot device unless something takes precedence (like $$$). You may want to go look at the openwrt git for the latest 4.14.x kernel patches while you're reading as well as file history. I was doing a half dozen things when I posted the information in the ticket and closed and re-opened it.

It looks to me that nothing happened after the revert, so BrainSlayer's choice was correct.

Both dissent1 and ynezz efforts went nowhere unfortunately.

Well it may be early to say, but I have updated to this build and the problem appears to be resolved...I have soft rebooted from the Administration tab twice and both times the router came back up with a good WAN connection. Working great so far!

thanks Chronoscape for letting us know and yea, I figured it would work ok for you now.
If you run across any other EA8500 users with this problem just tell them to use DD-WRT r42617 or newer bulid Cool

Are you talking about this?

4.19 does not equal 4.14, does it?

Looking at the master branch file history, it's not there, so they went with the dirty solution in the pull request and it works, I s'pose. I also didn't find anything that reached out at me in the patches section for 4.14, either.

I do think ynezz's work might be a cleaner follow-on solution, perhaps (which is part of what I want to test).

EDIT: Thanks for monkey-fucking my reply with your post edits. I should've waited until morning to respond Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

I included both because E8500 is on 4.19, but there is no information only the revert and a dts refresh. Sorry lol.

Maybe, but after those two commits the conversation goes on with dissent1 talking about a patch based on oem behavior.

It goes on and on until almost a month later ynezz gives up. Then there's this post lol.

I'd never checked but just found I have 1.0.12 uboot. I then updated to r42617 via webflash and fnally NO power cycle was required so success here. Thanks again mrjcd and BS
