r7800 latency is on par with kong builds, but the cpu usage for sirq on wifi interfaces is still broken and over 3x higher than kong builds and BS k3.18 builds..

kong r40720m firewall/qos/nat disabled, 5ghz sirq cpu load @ 320mbps:

core0: 15%
core1: 3%

ANY k4.x bs build firewall/qos/nat disabled, 5ghz sirq cpu load @ 320mbps:

core0: 60%
core1: 40%

if the r7800 was doing nat+qos, it still would be choking at these speeds from not enough cpu free.. keep the latency the same and fix the cpu usage, this will be finally 100% fixed for the first time..

STILL FORCED DISABLED HOSTAPD SYSLOG EVEN ON ROUTERS WITH BIG FLASH Evil or Very Mad

*cough* now THIS is qos.. https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/58324895

I tried several different protocol versions and also removed its user name & password and made public share
Still NO worky at all. The webif shows 'Samba Stopped' -- however my linux box can see it is there but there is NO way to connect to it in its current state.
Only thing I did not do was reformat the drive --- its only a 16GB flash drive but I just ain't gonna do that.

I boot her back to other part running r41892 and she good as new Very Happy

Router/Version: R7800
Mode: Router/AP
File: DD-WRT v3.0-r41954 std (01/09/20)
Kernel: Linux 4.9.208 #507 SMP Mon Jan 6 19:52:23 +03 2020 armv7l
Status: Works.

Samba required hitting "Apply settings" for it to start. Sys-info showed "Enabled - Stopped" after reboot.

QoS required hitting "Apply Settings" for it to do its thing. Bufferbloat was F before that, A after.

All the rest seems to work properly.

I don't see the new SAMBA options that mrjcd does on my r7800. My disk is formatted NTFS, if that makes any difference.

usmbd I believe is the in-kernel samba that is being tested, perhaps All I know is I saw that and cringed. Server string and workgroup aren't required? Interesting.

I reckon BS is working to sort samba out
https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/41968
and here --
https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/41969

Really makes me NO nevermind because r41813 running on main EA8500
is perfecly fine, Uptime 11 days, 6:53, without a bleep. Smile

I too am having great performance with r41813. As you have provided so much information and help I thought I would pass on a tidbit that may be of interest to you and others who have gone back to ondemand from the stock performance setting in BS builds for the EA8500.

Poking about here and in the OpenWRT forms I noted that Kong includes the following settings for the EA8500 in his OpenWRT builds.

sleep 1
echo ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
echo ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor
sleep 3
echo 800000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
echo 800000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
echo 20 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold
echo 10 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ondemand/sampling_down_factor
sleep 3
echo 2 > /proc/irq/100/smp_affinity

I added the sleep and smp_affinity code and use this in my startup command. On-demand works well, the router runs a bit cooler, and, most importantly, there is appears to be no change in peak performance as my openVPN client gives the same speeds as the performance setting.

yea LSM, in DD-WRT Kong always had a little different settings than BS in what you mention, for all IPQ units.
BS builds work just fine for me the way he has them ..... then again, I only have a 50/50 ISP fiber connection Razz

just

for CPUFREQ in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor; do [ -f $CPUFREQ ] || continue; echo -n performance > $CPUFREQ; done

is cleaner and does it best as it will ever get till BS actually starts believing his users when we say theres a problem..

I have done a lot of testing for the R7800, I know Kong uses 20 for up_threshold which is a bit to low for my taste, I use 35 which does give the same performance (and is also recommended on OpenWRT).
(OpenWRT standard is really bad up_threshold is 95, even normal WAN<>LAN throughput is hampered and not more than 650 Mb/s)

These settings are also discussed in the DWRT R7800 install guide

Edit: and I use the same command as tatsuya46 but use it to set ondemand Smile
