Hello,

i've dug out my old router and did a big mistake. I updated the Firmware. Ran into some problems with settings and wanted to go down again. Turns out with build 40559 you are not able to downgrade.

I've seen there was such a problem with a previous build and it should been fixed but it's not Crying or Very sad

Can anyone guide me trough the steps of being able to downgrade from my curren build version?

My hardware:

TP-Link WR941N(D) v2.2

current fw: build 40559

desired fw: build 37442

Thanks in advance.

Try method 3 https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#Method_3:_Flashing_with_Command_Line

Which build are you trying to flash? Makes sure the size of the file is smaller than your flash chip size.
It often happens that the builds are too big.

Latest build r40559, which is on the device right now, is the exact same size. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

try this command instead...

mtd -f write firmware.bin linux

firmware must be your file name to flash..

as the other members suggested it could be a bit bigger
size...

this unit is no fun, and lot of neglection from BS side on low end routers this days...

Wonder if this is one that still requires mtd unlock. No idea, not sure of exact command syntax to offer a suggestion. But I thought that it had been changed for a while to write firmware.bin linux and nothing else...

If direct download is not working try to restore a stripped factory image by wired connection (carefully check that you download the correct Version 941nd v2 matching your hardware revision

from

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85237
or
https://www.friedzombie.com/tplink-stripped-firmware/

reset all settings on the TP-Link firmware check that the hardware is working with the original firmware
and start again with the factory to dd-wrt with the build you want

Every cross flashing can brick your router, so download everything before that you need for TFTP recovery (all factory and dd-wrt firmware, recovery instructions and TFTP Server program). Use wired connection do not flash over wifi, reset to factory before cross flashing
