Which paper clips do you use, because I know the size of the holes on Linksys and what does and don't fit on most of the connectors.

just a regular standard paperclip (not a big one)
straighten it and clip it off down to a good size, don't need it too long
fits rather loosely in header holes --- that's why I pull all three to the side and tape Wink

I'm thinking I may do the mod so I don't have to have the case open. Stereo 1/8" (3.5mm) phone jack wired to the header and make up the external cable.

You guys are nuts. I love it, but you're all nuts... Smile

That's redneck geeks, though haha. I can say that since he and I are distant neighbors.

Were the samba configuration variables added to a .conf or nvram? Or are they hard-coded? Hmmm....

I run custom smb.conf to get my own setup. basically copy the generated one, tweak a few parameters and launch it on a startup script. I added max/min protocol there.

I am not 100% sure this release has the v3 protocol, I would have to look. BUT, I thought some of this may have been hard-coded and not in the .conf, so I would have to check into that. As always, it's an ever-evolving thing. And I don't know if it's ALL devices inclusive, either.

From approximately mid 2018 VAP's on Broadcom units are problematic, you cannot connect or do not get an IP address. There are workarounds :
1) When VAP is not working at boot; workaround startup command Administration/Commands, Save as Startup:
sleep 10; stopservice nas; stopservice wlconf; startservice wlconf; startservice nas;
2) Alternative way to get VAP working: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=317181
3) An other user reports the following workaround (save as startup):
sleep 4; stopservice cron; stopservice wlconf; wlconf eth1 up; wlconf eth2 up; startservice cron;
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=319412
4)This one is from @Redhawk (guaranteed to work ):
sleep 20; stopservice nas; wlconf eth1 down; wlconf eth2 down; wlconf eth1 up; wlconf eth2 up; startservice nas; logger "VAP workaround executed";

Was able to fix "Radio is OFF" by pushing dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt54g 01-07-2018-r34411.bin, HARD 30/30/30.
dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt54g 10-30-2019-r41418.bin Radio OK (haven't tested the rest).
Pushed dd-wrt.v24_mini_wrt54g 11-04-2019-r41459.bin and Radio was still ON.

Just a friendly heads up, apparently if you 30/30/30 a Broadcom router you risk bricking it permanently. The procedure for resetting a Broadcom router is to turn the power on and push and hold the reset for 10 seconds or so.

I believe you ment to say "ARM" routers

While yes ARM's are Broadcom.....

Most Broadcom's are NOT ARM....

At least none of the older verities like any of the wrt54g series

Also while not saying that 30/30/30 is not "potentially" harmful when performed on an ARM based router

I've never seen anyone actually report of any damages ever happening that was directly resulted from doing so..
Let alone a "permanent" brick?

Thanks for the clarification. I got "yelled at" on these forums for saying I had 30/30/30'd my Broadcom router, and thought it was more serious than that.

And it was probably either me or Malachi that yelled at you, because you're not s'posed to do it. All you need is 10 seconds on (Broadcom) ARM devices. Even on factory stock firmware.

Also, Qualcomm IPQ (Krait-based) processors are ARM. So are Marvell. And those two are also the reason why you DON'T do a 30-30-30 on ARM. Just to clarify.

Router Model / Version: Netgear Nighthawk R7000
File: netgear-r7000-webflash.bin
Reset: No
Mode: Gateway / AP - QoS (HFSC+CAKE)
Uptime: 0:10
Status: Bricked
Issues / Errors: Upon flashing, I set up the QoS with base settings of HFSC + CAKE and set up the password for wifi. After reboot I couldn't connect to both the wifi and ethernet anymore.

I'm not sure what the kernel is or the last build I was on. I tried to do a reset but the button doesn't seem to do anything. I held it for 10 seconds upon boot and it still had the same SSID and refused any connection. I also tried to connect to it using USB to TTL, but I'm not getting any output on boot. Not sure what else I can do.

Wasn’t me. I don’t yell at the 30/30/30 reset anymore.

Then it was probably me. Because 99 times out of 100, when someone with an ARM device comes on the forum saying they have problems and they read the Peacock thread and all this other stuff but nothing that says not to do it, the problems are because they did a 30-30-30. I could explain why it's bad, but I have no "glue" lol

You will most likely need to use nmrpflash to tftp flash it back to an older build or factory firmware, but I don't see why this one bricked your router. Did the light all the way on the left turn amber before you let go of the reset?

No I let go before the light went amber. I can also try to do it after it goes amber unless that's the wrong way to do it.

Edit: Just tried after it turned amber and still the same result. I'm going to try nmrpflash once I figure out how to use it.
