I got my openvpn all set up and it seems to be working fine. I can connect on my android phone, I get internet, my ip is my homes. If I try using the Microsoft remote desktop app, it says computer not found. It works if I am connected to the wifi directly. Is there another step I need to do?

I do not know how the app works but if it is using network discovery you are out of luck you have to use an IP address to get to the PC.

Futhermore the windows firewall can block the RDP request as the source is not your local network but the OVPN server, so as a test disable the windows firewall (if this is the case I have instructions somewhere to tweak the windows firewall to allow the ip range of the OVPN server)

I had pptp vpn set up at first and it was working. Does the openvpn change anything?

So, traffic goes from my phone (the client) to the openvpn public server and then to my router? So my the computer that I'm trying to RD to sees my phone as having the public openvpn IP? Which is why it worked on PPTP but not on openvpn?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, Like I said before, I'm new to all of this and I'm just trying to get my head wrapped around all of this.

Edit

I'm just trying to figure out where the 10.213.94.0/27 is coming from. Is that part of his local network or would that be the same for me[img][/img]

No the source IP is the OVPN server so 10.8.0.1 (if you setup default via the guide) and you normal network is something like 192.168.1.x

Just disable the windows firewall to see if that is the problem.

I got it working thanks to this comment. I explored the settings in the app and i could connect to a pc via IP instead of by name. I gave my PC a static IP, put that in and boom, works.

Thanks for the help!!

If you were using local DNS that will work also....that's all I've used for years.
of course your devices must be set on the router with a static DHCP lease IP & name Twisted Evil

and

10.213.94.0 / 255.255.255.224 (10.213.94.0/27) twas the ovpn server network I had going way back then...tis different now Razz
