I was not aware that MU-MIMO was so specialized and selective, I was under the impression that it was a general feature that was being integrated with the latest hardware and supported with 802.11ACv2. Same with the Beamforming technology, as both are presented as soft/firmware defined. I could be reading way to much into those technologies though. "Dynamic QOS" was the name that Netgear gives to their proprietary QOS algorithm, I have adjusted that bullet to reflect such.

I ended up switching my R7800 from BS 41218 back to Kong 40270. I find it to be a bit more stable with QOS.

Hey, so it has been a couple weeks, I have done much more thorough research on this router and how to image it. When I do though, it isn't booting the new firmware, instead acting like there is no valid firmware at all. set the router back to U-Boot tftp mode, and push the factory .img back on it, and the router boots up just fine with no issues whatsoever. If I had any settings changed those settings are still there. I tried doing a factory firmware settings reset, as I can't seem to telnet/ssh in and do an 'nvram erase' command. but that didn't change behavior, and after flashing to ddwrt, failing, and flashing back to factory, the router was at the new installation/setup page, just as if I hadn't installed the dd-wrt firmware.
Factory: v1.0.2.62
DDWRT: 40559, whatever version Alozaros PM'ed me.

If anyone has any ideas of what I can do to get a ddwrt .img to stick, that would be great.

In the top / first folder in the link blkt provided is a factory-to-ddwrt.img that should flash fine. Then you go into the dd-wrt UI, reset to defaults and let it reboot. Then, you can go into the 40270M folder and flash that and configure away to your heart's content, reboot and you should be good to go. That is, of course, if you configure it correctly as advised...

I didn't have enough energy to do all that, blkt lol. I wasn't even going to post. I should've waited for yours.

PostPosted: Tue Dec 03, 2019 17:39    Post subject: r7800 frequent signal drop Reply with quote
hi everyone, new to ddwrt and new to the forums. i bought a r7800 on ebay and quickly flashed ddwrt on it. i never tested netgear firmware but it came w/ the latest genie on it.

steps i've done:
1) reset genie to first release via web udpater.
2) flash latest ddwrt 40559 via tftp. at this point i had frequent signal drops. a quick power button toggle fixes the issue.
3) i saw to move to an older kong build for stability so i flashed 37495 per the bin file that another user keeps on Mega. at login, microsoft warned about an depricated security method so i moved up.
4) i flashed 39000 and this is where i am now.

i've had signal drops on both versions of ddwrt so far, about 10-12 per day. when the signal cuts out, the 2.4 & 5 lights continue blinking. i'm wondering if there are a few settings that will fix this issue.

more background info: fios modem/router is set in bridge mode per this website: https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r17679150-How-to-make-ActionTec-MI424-WR-a-network-bridge. this is an older modem/router combo and i've never had an issue w/ it however i've never disabled this much of it in the past.

additional issue: my linux laptop (ubuntu 19) will not connect to network (2.4 or 5) but all other devices are online.

any advice (on either issue) is greatly appreciated.

If you had followed the pointers below you would have come across the R7800 install guide. See my signature at the bottom of this post. It has all the answers and if not just ask Smile

Below some pointers which might help to get the best out of DDWRT and out of the forum:
1. Research your router, start with the supported devices wiki:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices .
2. In the supported devices wiki you can see if your router is supported and what architecture your router has and if you are lucky also an install guide/wiki.
3. Post in the right forum, from the former step you can see if your router is Broadcom, Qualcomm/Atheros, Marvell or other, use that forum to post router specific questions, for networking questions post in the Advanced Networking forum and for other things in the General Questions forum.
4. When posting always state router model, build number and when applicable the Kernel version.
Describe your problem and how you think it can be solved.
Give as much detail as you can also provide your network setup if applicable.
For your Network setup, state what wiki you have used: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_Routers
5. When posting pictures make sure the maximum width is not more than 600 pixels.
6. Do not hijack a thread, meaning do not post your own problem in someone else's thread. Just start your own thread.
7. If your post is answered and your problem solved, mark your thread with [SOLVED] (the header of your first post).
8. Do NOT use the router database, builds can be found at:
https://dd-wrt.com/support/other-downloads/?path=betas%2F2019%2F
All builds are beta including those from the router database.
9. Before uploading a new build to your router, research the build by looking in the build threads.
This is an example of a build thread for build 41328 for Broadcom routers:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=321699&highlight=41328
Search build threads with the search function and search on build number.
10. Use the build threads from the former step to report success or problems.
11. For older Broadcom routers (Linksys WRT54 and E series) read the peacock thread although some of it is outdated: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486
Builds can be found in the Broadcom directory for Linux kernel 2.4, in Broadcom_K26 for Linux K2.6 and in Broadcom_K3X for Linux K3.X.
12. If you are sure you have discovered a bug, after asking and querying the forum, you can report a real bug in the bug tracker: https://svn.dd-wrt.com/
This is also the place where the commits/changes to the source are administrated.

"The f*cking router database strikes again". There needs to be a disclaimer on the main site to come to and/or search Google or the forum before doing anything. And, of course, everyone tacks onto the original support add thread, because that is logical, right. FFS, SMDFH.

FWIW,

I changed the header of the supported routers list/page.
I can't change the website of the router database...that has to be an email to whoever is the webmaster....

Let me know if this works better...

@msoengineer, thanks for that. Maybe it will help, but most new users go to the website and router database first without looking much deeper, it seems. Then they come here wondering why things are broken. And then we have to tell them they were boneheads lol. AH, well. It's a step in the right direction. I don't know if they corrected the one device page of the database that had folks flashing the K24 builds to a device that never even was meant to use them. I should probably check into that...

Thanks it is progress but the website should point to the supported devices wiki and not to the router database and the website should give new users some guidelines (and perhaps we need new stickies in the forums)

I often send new users the following hints but those are just my ideas
