Hi,

I have a TP-Link WD-1043 v1 stuck at v3.0-r35667 and cannot upgrade or downgrade through the WebUI. How can I fix it?

try CLI flash
connect via Telnet or SSh and than issue those commands:

cd /tmp
wget ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2019/10-15-2019-r41328/tplink_tl-wr1043nd/tl-wr1043nd-webflash.bin
write tplink_tl-wr1043nd.bin linux
reboot

I think I bricked the device, after reboot, power lights on but 1,2,3,4,WAN are flashing.
So, any help flashing through serial TTL?

mea culpa, my apology for that, 'mtd write -f' is for flashing factory-to-ddwrt instead of webflash

I have a 1043ND v1 that was bricked a while ago (18 months or so). I tried serial and no luck. I decided it was not worth debricking. The 1043ND v1 is notorious for having very unstable wifi, dropping connections, rebooting, short range, etc.

Look at upgrading to something like the TP-Link Archer C7, it is AC1750, much faster SoC, more RAM, bigger flash. Very stable. Almost as stable as my ancient D-Link DIR-615 C1 and E3. They are the most stable routers I have ever owned.

You might try this first
The easy way to de-brick / upgrade FW locked TP-Link 1043ND v1
Before you try to buy a USB-TTL cable for it.

For the tips to choice suitable version,
If you need SNMP, "R36104"(2018-06-10) is the last version works for 1043ND v1.
Without SNMP, try those versions beyond "R39230", which's removed OpenSSL / SNMP to shrink their size into the 8MB ROM.

But ALL those versions beyond R33375, you won't be able to upgrade them just via the WebUI, even those shrank beyond "R39230".

The right way of doing upgrade of TL-WR1043 v1 is:

On Windows:
copy /b boot.bin+factory-to-ddwrt.bin fullflash.bin

...and you have to serve the resulting fullflash.bin file over http.

On Router:
cd /tmp
wget 192.168.0.100/fullflash.bin
mtd -f write fullflash.bin fullflash
reboot

...but first you have to have a copy of your boot.bin.

Interesting.
But I tested it for several times, and 1043ND v1 always rebooted immediately after it got image.bin via HTTP or SCP.
Maybe the rootfs size is too small for the image file, only 6528KB.
Current dd-wrt version on 1043ND v1 is r41375.
