thanks KP, i have flashed a few times tftpd & serial but completely forgot the 'go' part, i had ran the nvram erase commands but i will have another go, i am sure the go command will now write to nand.
Thanks bro
No that not worked either :
CFE> nvram erase

CFE> flash -noheader : flash1.trx

Added: It seems that if i enter flash -noheader : flash1.trx command even with the latest stock it returns to command prompt then if i enter command go it retunrs to the Start TFTP server only way this seems to flash is with latest stock without header command and it reboots as it should very strange, not sure if router is iffy or latest stock has again changed adding more security to netgear fw

foz111 are you using the bin file?
Using the chk file will give those errors. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

ignore the above. I just found your old post where you found out using chk gave the errors _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

To be honest i tried kong.chk, bs.chk old stock.chk bs.bin
bs factory to dd-wrt.chk in all about 10-12 files and only 1 that will take and work every time is the latest Netgear firmware that it's already on, even tried one i changed header on with hex editor i found on pc.
so either router iffy or Netgear is playing silly buggers again.
funny thing, if you use: flash -noheader : flash1.trx command and tftp the latest firmware over that don't work either returns to tftp server prompt very odd but suspect Netgear fw blocking something again not good either way.

Hi everyone I'm new here today, I just got a r8000 today and was wondering if any of you tech guys are in the Socal area that can help me with the DDwrt update on the r8000. I can take you the router I want to give this as a gift to my son but I'm not tech savvy. Let me know if you can help I'll get you lunch lol!!

I have had a Netgear R8000 for years and recently bricked it. I went out and bought a like-new R8000 and want to upgrade it. I am getting the "Invalid Firmware" message. I opened it up to hook up my serial cable and I can't get it to enter CFE mode. CRTL-C seems to do nothing in the session. Nothing I type in putty seems to have any effect at all. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?
I am in a spot of bother with my Netgear R8000 and would appreciate some direction
I have managed to get past the netgear firmware not allowing me to upload any other firmware and I now have OpenWRT (OpenWRT Snapshot, r9256-8be8162d70) on my netgear - I can SSH and SCP into it no problem.
When I try to bring up a web interface i get the following:
/usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:315: /etc.config/luci seems to be corrupt, unable to find section 'main'
Stack traceback:
[C]: in function 'assert'
/usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:315: in function 'dispatch'
/usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:208: in function </usr/lib/lua/luci/dispatcher.lua:207>
I guess I am looking for the simplest option to get from here to the latest DDWRT or OpenWRT release for the R8000
If you're on openwrt flash back to an older stock Netgear firmware (18 months old or older) then you can flash any dd-wrt r8000 bs or kong fw without any need for stock to dd-wrt.
Not sure when Netgear introduced the none downgrade fw but it wasn't over 18 months ago seems like 12 months or so.
unable to flash r8000 BS factory to DD-WRT from gui
I'm also trying to flash a R8000 from this firmware (1.0.4.46) to DD-wrt. Have you been able to do it successfully now? How did you do it? Any help would be much appreciated!
I can't tell if I need to revert the R8000 back to original stock (1.0.0.46, 11/28/16) or if I should try the CHK linked in the DD-WRT database

Flash back to stock
From stock use a build after 41489.
You should be able to just flash/upload from stock GUI
Of course you have to use the .chk file for first flash.
Have you tried the above?
I haven't tried it yet b/c the router database says to use version 40559. Would you say it's ok to do that w/ v40559?
Don't use the router database, research the build threads in the forum, but you should be able to find a working firmware after that revision number ....
