dir-882 upgraded stock firmware to 1.2
trying to change firmware to dd wrt but it fails each time. I have tried several versions but each time it fails. not really sure why its not working. thanks!
I moved it.
You may have to flash to an older stick firmware using the recovery page. Search for my thread in this forum. You’ll need to download a version of the firmware that is unencrypted. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
I just went through this with DIR-882 A1, which shipped with rev 1.3 D-Link firmware. There is still old info out there which gives directions that only work for earlier firmware.
As others mentioned, any D-Link firmware (after rev 1.1) wants an encrypted firmware for a webflash, so will need booted to recovery mode to switch to DD-WRT from stock D-Link firmware after rev 1.1
I had seen conflicting info that Firefox was the browser to use, tried an older v54 FF (since people obviously could not have been using the current FF version back when the guides were written) and that failed, it timed out within seconds, with no progress meter.
Next I tried IE11 which worked. I could tell right away it was getting further along because I saw the % progress meter increment upwards. I was in disbelief that it would take as long as 3-5 minutes but that's how long it took.
SO, with the newest (as of today rev 1.3) D-Link firmware, the condensed upgrade for me was:
- Hold in reset button for 10 seconds while powering on. The power button is fine to use, no need to pull and replug the power cable. There was no need to have it turned on first then hold in the reset button in while powering off. Brand new out of the box, just hold in the reset button for 10 seconds when powering on.
- Ethernet connect lan port direct to computer with a static 192.168.0.2 IP addr set.
- Use IE11 to access the recovery console on 192.168.0.1 and upload the DD-WRT factory-to-ddwrt.bin. You will see a % upload bar incrementing if this is working.
- Wait till finished (~ 5 min, it will state successful) then change computer IP to DHCP, then computer should receive a 192.168.1.1** something IP assignment, then you can access 192.168.1.1 for router DD-WRT GUI. You do not need to keep using IE once this far along.
