Hey guys!

I'm only at 20 mb download/8mb upload speeds and wondering if installing DD-WRT on a Linksys e2500 can help ping spikes while gaming.

Also, I'm a bit confused as to which firmware would be best to install for my needs?

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_E2500

I understand I need to install the "Trailed mini" before anything else but where would I go from there?

Thanks for the help!

Is this your primary gateway router? Not sure if it will help pings, but to install DD, the wiki looks pretty good. I.e.:
-reset
-install the initial K2.6_mini-e2500.bin and wait
-reset
-install k3x 33772 and wait longer
-reset (set password, then telnet and `erase nvram && reboot` is preferred)

Then manually set up and run that for a while before thinking about anything newer. And if you eventually do try newer builds, always read the build threads first.

You can compare if latency is better with or w/o SFE, and also play with TCP Congestion Control options.

Note that for builds after 18 Apr 2018 a telnet reset uses `nvram erase && reboot` instead.

Also, a reminder that you'll lose the (useless, in my experience) 5Hz radio with DD.

I'm wondering if the k3x 33772 builds have Qos features like dl/ul limits and fq_codel as I've heard they help in reducing network bufferbloat.

I will be hooking this up to my isp provided Techinicolor modem btw. Never done something network related before so appreciate the help! Smile

It does; is your bandwidth maximized when this latency occurs?

QoS on slower hardware like that may be of limited benefits, but easy enough to try. Wink

I have no clue if my bandwidth is maxed out when I get ping spikes. I think so cause I have others in the home on wifi devices when it happens most.

Even say at 20mb dl and 8mb ul you think this piece of hardware will struggle? I noticed it can be overclocked though Laughing

edit: Just noticed v1 is locked at 300mhz. I was planning to buy this router off someone but will probably not end up doing so.
