Please direct me where to report the error?
First I reported here: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1175379#1175379
But apart from links to man ... nothing. I guess I asked the wrong question.
Then I created a ticket: https://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/6797, where they asked me the question: "Was this reported in the build thread?" Tell me - Where is it?
The current firmware is DD-WRT v3.0-r41027 std (09/13/19) on Linksys WRT1900ACSv2 every time the router starts:
Code:
Jan 1 03:00:25 LinkSYS daemon.warn sm-notify [1478]: Failed to open sm: No such file or directory
Jan 1 03:00:25 LinkSYS daemon.err sm-notify [1478]: Failed to open directory sm.bak: No such file or directory
Jan 1 03:00:25 LinkSYS daemon.err rpc.statd [1477]: Failed to open directory sm: No such file or directory

I observe the following problem:
When a client plays video from a disk on a router via NFS, a sudden stop occurs. Playback can last from a few seconds, up to ... ten (not exactly measured) minutes. You can repeat the playback, but ... the story repeats.
If you reconnect the client to the Samba connection, then there are no breaks.

I strongly not recommend user uses WRT1900ACSV2. It always over heat and firmware always have different bugs in different build. From 2018 to 2019 build of DD-WRT, no version is stable. I give up for this build so I recommend you downgrade to year 2017 version. The reason is it is more stable for you. The developers do not test very carefully before and release the next build very fast to public for testing.

Unless the user owns unlimited time and resource to organize and manage the network, otherwise, it cannot release the stable version.

If possible, please install a fan for cooling, it can prevent hang of the router in WRT1900ACSV2 due to overheat.

I have a comparable issue with WRT1900ACS V2, but my problem affects Samba and Android. I can only get around 1,5 - 3 MByte/sec with sudden complete transfer stops, while Windows goes up to 70Mbytes/sec. The Samba server on the router also seems to crash, there are reports on Android that the connection has been closed by the server.
FTP has the same issue on Android, sometimes it even does not show the file system!
How did you get NFS activated? Whenever I activate it through the GUI and add a share, the share disappears after save/apply.

Sorry, didn't see your post in that thread when you opened the ticket. People have a habit of opening tickets without posting in the forum first.

I guess I'm lucky! I do not experience any problems with overheating, and he ... NEVER hung on. Of course, there were times if I tortured him with obscene settings. But 30/30/30 and ... OK!

If you are unable to save the settings, then you may try to return to an earlier version. I can’t recommend it specifically, I turned on these settings for a long time, as soon as NFS appeared in the firmware. 1TB NTFS HDD is connected to the eSATA port.

Thanks a lot! Filling the allowed networks field did the trick. Apparently, it must not be empty (in contrast to subdir, which can be empty). Unfortunately, this is not documented in the help page.
However, it does not solve my Android problem, as no file is showing up, same problem as your:
Code:
Jan 1 01:00:39 DD-WRT daemon.notice rpc.statd[1385]: Version 2.3.4 starting
Jan 1 01:00:39 DD-WRT daemon.notice sm-notify[1386]: Version 2.3.4 starting
Jan 1 01:00:39 DD-WRT daemon.warn sm-notify[1386]: Failed to open sm: No such file or directory
Jan 1 01:00:39 DD-WRT daemon.err sm-notify[1386]: Failed to open directory sm.bak: No such file or directory
Jan 1 01:00:39 DD-WRT daemon.err rpc.statd[1385]: Failed to open directory sm: No such file or directory

Just to reinforce that last part, I run six of these routers and had two of them occasionally hang and generally have trouble until I literally set those routers on cheap 120mm AC Infinity USB fans blowing up through the bottom of the case. It's not a pretty solution, but it works. Drops the CPU temp from around 73C to 58C or so. The fans are cheap enough ($15 US) that I put the other four on them as a precaution.

I have also struggled with very recent releases, but not in any way that appears unique to this router model. And 38159 and 39144 from earlier this year have been great for me. It's looking so far like 40009 is really solid as well. No trouble at all with any of those.

Seconded. I run the same fan. Same temp drop here and even more of a temp. drop in the summer months when the house temp is warmer.

With DD the more complex you make your setup the more likely you are to encounter problems and what works with one version may not work with the next due to the constantly changing kernel and other parts of DD that are constantly being updated. Therefore the "best" version is what works for YOU and what works for someone else because they have the same router model is certainly no guarantee it will work for you.

Thank you both for the fan suggestion. Great idea.

This r41027 release with the new AES-256-GCM cypher from the drop-down menu selection in the OpenVPN GUI has allowed me to reduce latency under load by 30% when used with Cake QOS. Good stuff.

Be sure to contribute to DD-WRT Development Support via PayPal. These recent releases have been quite an improvement on my WRT32X, so I just sent BrainSlayer another 10 euros.

The $12 AC Infinity fan arrived today, and my experience is the same as yours. The temperatures of the WRT32X's CPU and radios drop by more than twelve degrees Celsius while under load, which will greatly extend the lifetime of the equipment and increase reliability. The best thing is that it is essentially silent while operating on low speed.

Thanks again for the tip.
