I have a Netgear R7800 currently running DD-WRT v3.0-r40863 std (08/31/19). I just updated from r40720m hoping for a fix. All my PCs run Windows 10 and phones are all android.
This issue has been going on for several months now and I can't figure out what the problem is.
Problem: My computers and anything else with wifi access will loose access to the internet randomly through out the day. They still maintain a wifi connection with local access but no internet. Most of the time, but not all, the hardwired computers will maintain internet access when this happens. Eventually all devices, wifi and hardwire, loose internet and my watchdog will reboot the router. When it comes back up everything is good to go again for awhile until repeat.
What I know: not a whole lot, if I can release and renew the Wan DHCP it will sometimes start working again. I have had it loose internet on just the 2.4ghz side but not the 5ghz. Most of the time it is both. I never loose wifi connection until the router reboots. I have noticed in my log that it switches to an erroneous date such as DEC 31 or Jan 1st but eventually corrects itself. I am very frustrated and really need some help. Here is my Syslog.
I can post pics of the log showing the red and yellow highlighted problems if that will help. Just let me know.
I am on the same firmware you were previously on and even after doing a factory reset i still have the 2.4ghz radio just crashing.
I am not sure if its being caused by the laptops i have on my network. I know two of them have intel 7260 wifi NICS and the other two are using Qualcomm Atheros Wireless NICS
So far, and just today, i tried changing the channel width to 20mhz, set network mode to mixed, and set channel to 1. so far, so good.
My R7500v2, on the other hand, is using the same firmware with the same linux kernal yet its 2.4ghz radio has not crashed. I dont have many devices conencted to it and its set in wireless G mode only with channel 11 set. _________________ For people who are new to the dd-wrt forums >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm

If you have Android on the same radio as anything else, doesn't matter, 2.4 or 5GHz, there's a chance it's the problem - especially if you don't have DTIM set to 2.

@ johnday29, if you went from a kong build to BS, you may have some lingering NVRAM gremlins conflicting. It's advisable that you write down your settings and then restore back to factory (dd-wrt) settings and re-type your settings. Again, I suggest you look at my signature for the recommended wifi settings to be using.
@Gameman Advanced Kid, try my recommended settings. you too might be in the same boat needing to go to factory reset and re-enter all your settings. it's entirely possible something in the nvram settings got mapped differently at some point and introduced new issues. This can happen going from an older build to a new build with no reset in between. This happened on a few builds in 2018 for sure for me... _________________ FORUM RULES

hmm, so far been on 40270 Kong for a quite long time ...
never had those issues or at least anyone reported/complain about it...
i never use mixed or auto channel, nor i use 5Ghz at all
i have a many mixed vendor wi-fi devices, all smooth, recently rebooted the router due to a power down, otherwise it was on for a 20 days +
i guess it sonds very likely like either a client based issue or bad settings or bad Ath10k driver...
reset/redo your router manually and try again... _________________ Atheros

You can run Kong's final build 40270M or grab the latest BS build; it should not matter.
My R7800 is a spare and is powered down right now, but I manage a few friend's R7800's and they are running Kong's 40270M.
My suggested wifi settings work on either Kong or BS builds. The issue described is most likely something strange with either your settings, or a NVRAM gremlin.
Basically, this router has a faulty chip and no firmware can really fix the issue. You have to reflow the 2.4ghz chip inside the router and then improve the cooling solution. _________________ For people who are new to the dd-wrt forums >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm

I am having the same issue as well on my R7800. This is happening on both Broadcom and Atheros routers. Certain models maybe if I am not mistaken. _________________ For people who are new to the dd-wrt forums >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm

Hi all. Apologies for posting in an old thread but I’m having exactly the same issues with my R7800. Currently running Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r36330 std (07/16/1 and tried all variants but still the issue exists.
As a sanity check I dug out my old DD-WRT flashed WNDR3700 and ran that as an AP with a wired ethernet into the R7800 and served the same VAP SSID name and settings as close as I could get to those as running on the R7800. The WNDR3700 was absolutely rock solid with no dropouts over several days.
I’m beginning to suspect the 2.4 radio on the R7800 is the culprit.
Did anyone else on this thread get a solution to this?
