I posted my problem here but Its been suggested to post in the advanced networking section, rather than double post ill Link this here as I just updated it with new info

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=320969

at the end of the day Im running both VPN server and client
I need my LAN (both wifi and ethernet) to use the Openvpn Client's DNS, I have to use PBR as I can't access my router or the openvpn server with out it, oddly enough if I connect to my router with my openvpn server all the dns goes through the openvpn client DNS like I need my local lan and wifi to do, im a bit lost ... I got everything working including working internet to my openvpn server lan and wifi all playing nice with the exception of the PBR ip's not using the vpn (client) DNS, if you need details logs, just tell me what you need and ill post it

thanks for your time

EDIT:
I used the script found here to fix the issues

The clients of the OpenVPN server are either using their own DNS server or using the one you are pushing them via the OpenVPN server options (unless they are Windows 10 clients they want to use their own DNS server unless you add some code).

If you are connected to Express VPN show
Code:
cat /tmp/resolv.dnsmasq
the Express VPN DNS servers should be the top two entries
Those shold be used BUT only if they are publicly available (test with NSlookup) some VPN providers have DNS servers which are not publicly avalaible but only when connected via the VPN and because you are using PBR the router itself (which does the DNS) is not using the VPN and can threfore not 'see' the DNS servers from Express if they are not publicly available.

P.S. I am in the summer residence in rural France and internet is very flaky so I can not provide my usual speedy service Smile
