I acquired an EA8500 a while back, thrift store find. Tried to DD-WRT it. Since the factory firmware was too new to use the UI, I had to crack it open and use the serial header.

I had modded routers with DD-WRT before, just didn't read the fine print that the factory-to-ddwrt was BS, and I should have used a Kong version.

This was months ago, and the router has sat on a shelf, decided to dust it off and try again. What's the best way to recover this unit?

Hoping to dual boot OpenWRT on one partition, DD-WRT on the other, with DD-WRT primarily being used.

This is not the Qualcomm / Atheros forum. https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=28 BUT, you might be able to set the boot partition to 2 and boot up that way. Only method I know of to un-brick is serial recovery or tftp flash. Google serial recovery dd-wrt and/or tftp flash dd-wrt and/or recover from a bad flash dd-wrt.
