if coming from version 1.10 or higher, you need to flash down to 1.04 first.

this is included in the 1.10 firmware from D-Link's support website. the file name should be DIR878A1_FW104B05_Middle_FW_Unencrypt.bin

Hi,

where i can find DIR878A1_FW104B05_Middle_FW_Unencrypt?

You can click HERE

NB: That particular recovery method did not work in my case. Method that worked for me was to crash recover with the original shipped firmware.

Hi all.

I just installed the latest build 40559 from the download section on my newly acquired DIR-878 A1
It seems to be working really bad. Both 2.4G and 5G are constantly disconnecting on the end devices. I've looked through this and other threads, but it is not clear to me, which actual firmware version I should use and what are caveats for this specific HW. There are also multiple references to 882 "Broly" FW but it's not clear to me if it is better (and how) and can it be flashed directly on 878 device

Can someone be so kind and clarify what version should I use?

Thanks

All I am looking for is to get this device running as AP with DFS channels enabled on 5G

DIR-878/882 is actual still in happy testing state Laughing Last working and stable release seem to be r39296, the last one with kernel v3 Cool

I would also recommend
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r39296 std (03/27/19)

Just give it a short new try on r40932 from ground with reset to factory default. My laptop with intel chipset seem to connect fine over WiFi, but IOS devices still have problems to connect. Better say, nearly no chance to connect! Rolling Eyes

anyone using ddwrt with this router and has no problems? which build?

I do like the stock performance but d-link's software is kind of useless.

Likely none of those. Why? Because the router database is not updated and is inaccurate more often than not still. I have been trying to post build threads in this sub-forum so people can flash and report, but nobody is biting, so I have no idea what to tell you. https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2019/

Only thing I can suggest is possibly some kind of recovery mode or downgrade your factory firmware version to the oldest you can find.

As dead as this sub-forum usually is, there is no telling. Nobody seems to participate here.

I have the sister router, DIR-882, and have settled on https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2019/03-27-2019-r39296/. Later builds have never worked for me. Looking at posts it seems most DIR users are on r39296.

My DIR-882 router cannot use any of the normal builds. Tried r39296, even the wired ethernet connection did not work at all. I have to rely on broly's builds. They have their own problems but at least the general functionalities are good.
