On my EA8500 running a lowly ADSL2+ connection, I find HFSC/CAKE best, with the first 4 of 5 priorities ticked:
https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/53531914 (best)
https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/53532717 (typical)
Note than I'm running OpenVPN and connected to a foreign country.
Note also that I get better results via Ungoogled-Chromium than Firefox. _________________ ------------------------------------

MY ISP's internet plan is 100 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up
The cable modem they provide is the older DOCSIS 3.0 Arris TM822A
Looking at the speed test I don't see anything unusual. I get about 80-90 down in my area with 10-12 up in my area during the day. C or B rating for buffer bloat is fairly normal.
Someone may have been playing Netflix in the other room during the test (unsure). But looking at the results, I do not understand exactly what you think is wrong. You'll have to be very clear on that.
do u not notice ur own upload latency..? its horrible, unusable in tons of cases what i dont know is how u find that "normal" or "fine" etc.. tcp packet priority setting would help here if it was working.
I had Quality Of Service (QoS) disabled. There was a reason why I disabled it, but I do not recall what that reason was. I have enabled it and will check later if there is any change.
mrjcd,
yep - vpn makes a difference!
If I connect to the vpn via my own country's servers, I get 400ms lag, but from an other nearby country, I only get 100ms lag - go figure. _________________ ------------------------------------

dslreports is not good way to test QoS, and bufferbloat...
for me http/https browsing is something that should have highest priority , for my kids games, for my wife hbogo and VOIP... dslreports cannot do such tests...
best testing is old way... pinging (8.8.8. and watching latency changes while doing massive downloads via torrents (high number of concurent connections over 4000)... if ping time changes from 10-15ms to no more than 50-90 ms QoS is working... and try it without QoS... Atheros has QoS built in wifi driver too so it should be considered when testing eth vs ath...
small tcp packet prioritization is no longer done through iptables mangle table... so don't serach it there... it is done in tc.... do:
