Hi All,

I pulled out an old stock WL500-W which has to act as a repeater to cover some dead areas at the back of my garden.

I read the WIKI and Peacock thread and TFTP'd succesfully the NVRAM - Recover - Mini Asus.Trx which is actually
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) mini - build 14929

After doing some research I found that most of the recommended firmware links are all running dead (logically)

Does anyone has a fine working build? e.g @redhawk0 BS 12672_mega_generic.bin ( https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=56939 )

I don't want to end up wild guessing and having a bricked router.

Thanks in advance!

btw: the mini 14929 build doesnt work as it should because when I hit the save button the screen goes instantly to an error saying " 192.168.1.1 didn't send any data"
Edit: It works in Explorer, not in Chrome

If you want a newer build try 33772 (which has the Krack fix for client/repeater modes). Reset then manually set up. If you have issues, flash 33555. All kinds of old k2.4 routers were reported working with 33772.

If I don' see my router model in the list should I then take the broadcom mega.generic or the mini.Asus ?

Thanks a million!

It is indeed Way back, but I thought it will fullfill its purpose as described, namely filling up the deadspots back in the yard.

I'll try this build, guess repeater function works fine Smile

Thanks again.

The mini file is (I presume) just for initial flash. You could use any mini/usb-standard/mega generic broadcom/ file to update (of course after researching new build threads).

Does USB not work post-19463 for k2.4 builds, or you've just never tested it?

If I remember correctly....(we're going back quite a few years now)....the USB drivers were removed from the firmware after that build. So you could never mount the usb drive. In the same folder that I had this build of firmware...I have another file called EXT2.zip. I believe this to be the EXT2 USB drivers (ext2.o) that had to manually be installed after this build. I could never get it to work though.

The repeater function should work...I was one of the original testers and had tested all my units as R/RB back in the day.

Thanks for the help guys,
The Redhawk post *.bin did load correctly after GUI flashing and waiting 2 coffee to give the Nvram time to write everything away.

I'll configure it tomorrow.

Again, Really appreciated!

Hello all,

I would like to update the same router.

What is the last firmware for the WL-500W?

There is the method to do it directly in the webadmin?

Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends on whether or not you want working USB or not. I do not know if any of the more recent releases with USB support work or not as I don't own this or any of it's clones. NOTE: The device wiki has not been updated since 17:47, 31 July 2012, not sure how much of that information still applies or is relevant.
