I enabled Adblock and few Blacklist sources and turned on logging as well. But, I don't see anything in the logs and not sure whether the adblock is working as I see that the ads are still coming thru'.
Any ideas whether I need to enable or configure more?
Flashed it and looks solid as well. Thank you @Kong for another awesome build.
Is there a way to identify what build is in the router? I see only this label for both 07/29 and 08/17 build - KONG 19 2019-Q2 / LuCI openwrt-19.07 branch (git-19.190.55584-ab90938).
EDIT: I see that the kernel is updated to 4.14.138. That's probably one indicator of what build is in the router but love to see a build number to easily identify it. Not a big deal but just curious... _________________ Netgear R7800 [DD-WRT]; ASUS RT-87U [DD-WRT]; ASUS RT-AC68U [FreshTomato]
There is a new version for adblock (3.8.0) which you can install it through opkg (you will have to download two ipks from openwrt snapshot packages) and it works much better.
It refreshes and updates the blacklists quickly as the adblock developer has made couple of tweaks (DNS File Reset & 'null' blocking variant in dnsmasq) to make it faster. _________________ Netgear R7800 [DD-WRT]; ASUS RT-87U [DD-WRT]; ASUS RT-AC68U [FreshTomato]

EA8500 on 17 Aug version.
Just changed network provider. Connecting mode changed from DHCP to PPPOE. I can get internet by using laptop but can't make EA8500 run. When EA8500 was in PPPOE, it could not get correct WAN MAC which was shown as 00:00:00:00:00:00.

Running this build on R7800, doing wireless client (STA) to an LTE hotspot on 2.4ghz and it is smoking the speed I used to get out of recent BS and Kong builds on my older R7000.
I wouldn't expect much of a speed difference with LTE, but the latency is especially lower.
Does your changes have a github anywhere?
This Novatel 7730L used to use USB RNDIS on the first firmware shipped by Verizon in the USA but now seems to use CDC now. That's good overall but everyone, including me, sees it just cycle between connect and disconnect on the USB hub. Not sure if there is a special setting or usb modeset to kick start it correctly.
Thanks for this build Kong, I'm really enjoying it.
I just added the modules for rndis and ipeth, next build will have the packages for it in the opkg repo, maybe that helps.
Hi, KONG. Thanks for your great jobs. My EA8500 is at "KONG 19 2019-Q2 / LuCI openwrt-19.07 branch (f138fc93)". Works fantastic.
I have a 320G ESATA disk. This disk was tested on windows10 using FAT32, got read=85M/s write=78M/s.
Attached it to EA8500, only got 33M/s when reading from samba by wire network. I use dd to test the io speed. The file size is 1024M .
time dd if=./largefile of=/dev/null bs=4k
262144+0 records in
262144+0 records out
real 0m 14.73s
user 0m 0.34s
sys 0m 3.69s
1024/14.73=69.5M/s
Does that mean Samba is the key of low speed?
New samba4 is the problem, I ran a test with both samba4 and proftpd on the same router. Samba4 gave me around 30MB/s, but with ftp to the same folder I got 85MB/s. It is pretty strange as cpu is not fully maxed out, when using samba, that's why I first thought it is a IO problem until I tried ftp.
When I feel like it I'll profile it, must be some waiting/timeout etc. issue.
Hi KONG,
Could you please add NFS server to packages? NFS generally got better performance than SAMBA.
Thanks a lot for your fabulous work on the firmware.
I'm currently running a R7800 + kong dd-wrt + OpenVPN/NordVPN on a pretty fast fibre connection. Not seeing great performance on the IPs included in the policy based routing due to the overhead of OpenVPN.
I'm thinking to purchase another R7800 and take the jump to Kong's Open WRT with the intention of switching to Wireguard + some other VPN provider. But test and configure offline, then re-purpose 1 router as an AP.
Can anyone confirm Wireguard client on Kong/OpenWRT/R7800?

may be in his country R7800 is a pocket cash, or beer money...
in general you can run wireguard clients on DDWRT router too...
i can see it, in the menu...sadly to play with it, i dont have a VPN that supports it, nor have any VPN on my systems at all... _________________ Atheros

Thanks for the reply.
Eventually use it as an Access Point to cover my office. But that's really nothing to do with it except that half my house stops working if I take down the main router.
I've no experience with wireguard at all and not many have since its pretty new. And that element of my question might well belong in Advanced Networking.
Mullvad for example only support OpenWRT. So my question is does anyone use Kong OpenWRT for a similar purpose successfully?
