have a Netgear Nighthawk r8500 that I converted to DD WRT for 1gb home network. Works great, no issues with it.
I have 2 addional routers: Apple Time Cap and Airport Extreme just lying in my closet.
Would they be any use on my home network other than being a bridge or additional hd storage? Or should I just sell them? _________________ R8500 v3.0-r39960M kongac (06/08/19)

A quick search of "{device} as access point" seems to indicate they can. Try those searches, but in general to make a router act as WAP, if it's not already a given option, you just need to:
-Connect to the gateway via LAN/network instead of WAN/internet
-Disable DHCP
-Disable firewall, port fwd'ing, QoS, UPNP, etc. (but should ok either way since you're not using WAN)
-Change mode to 'router' if available (most routers don't have this option)
Unlikely there's an option to map the WAN port as LAN (like DD has), but that's another thing to watch for. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#
