I have an old WNDR3700v4 that was replaced by a Netgears X4S
Right now it's being used as a wifi AP and ethernet hub. All other functions are disabled such as routing etc.
But, I've had a look round the forums and i cannot tell what firmware i can put on it. Whether a default DD-wrt firmware, or a Kong build or brainslayer, or something.
I don't need every feature, Just a lightweight build that is easy on the underpowered 600mhz processor.

just stick with ddwrt.. and theres only 1 build for it, theres no kong builds for it. just a ap and switch is light as it is, assuming firewall/dns/dhcp, etc is off, even https remote assess off for http only (as its probably on the internal network anyway) _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

I've been happy with DD-WRT v3.0-r30082 std (07/01/16) for the last three years as my main router. Nothing fancy, just a firewall, DDNS, dual-band AP, ethernet switch, and some MAC IP reservations.
I should upgrade to get some of the security fixes but doubt I'd have the need or the 3700 would have the horsepower for much more.
By default ddwrt firmware I assume you mean the version the the router database point to, which as far as I can tell is one and the same as brainslayer's latest beta.
I don't make heavy use of WiFi - everything that has an ethernet jack is hardwired: Raspberry Pis, Arduinos, printers, desktops, laptops, and NAS. WIFi is for my phone and a pair of vintage iPads.
Some long weekend I'll try a recent version - any favorites?
The router database lists much more updated versions (eg, r40559, 8-6-2019), but I've also seen in the firmware FAQ that you should not use the router database to download firmware.
Sorry for being away for so long. so just put the one conation has shown on the router? Is there anything like mini, mega or whatever builds? I just want it to be able to do better with being bogged down.
I am not entirely sure of the benefits over AP mode on netgear, over AP mode on DD-wrt.
Will it not bog down so much?
But yeah. Its got no firewall or anything turn ed on, it's just an ethernet hub with wifi right now.
It plugs into the main router which is a R7800X4S Nighthawk.
