I've noticed recently under Status/Wireless tab the following line:

Encryption - Interface ath0: Disabled

What does this refer to? I didn't see any settings pertaining to this, and I was under the impression that WPA2 connections are by definition encrypted.

Your wifi is not encrypted. I have several routers running DD-WRT. That same line for me reads WPA2-PSK (the encryption I use).
Encryption - Interface ath0 Enabled, WPA2-PSK

Hm, how is this even possible... where can I change it? I recently reset the settings, and put everything back the way it was.

This is all that's available on the probably only related page:

Also, the iPhone's wifi page (in its Settings) has the "lock" icon next to the connection.

Do you know if your iPhone supports WPA3? Do any of your devices?

I only use WPA2 Personal + CCMP-128 (AES).

I've unchecked WPA3 - probably none of my devices support it. It appeared in one of the updates in the last weeks, and just left it checked.

It didn't affect that line, though - still says "Disabled".

The only actual change I did a few days ago was switching from NG-Mixed to N-only (I figured I don't need backward compatibility as all my devices are at least N).

N-only is broken, has been for a while. Use NG-Mixed. It will still use N speeds. That may be the issue there.

I've set it back to NG mixed, saved, applied, and rebooted. That line is still the same.

iPhone still normally shows the lock icon, and an android tablet shows "Security: WPA2 PSK". And I couldn't connect without the password either.

So maybe that's just a displayed value issue then (updated to r40459 today, from r40400).

DD-WRT v3.0-r44213 std (08/18/20). Encryption - Interface ath1Disabled. Linksys+wrt1900ac-v1. WPA2 Personal and WPA2 Personal with SHA256 and CCMP-128 (AES) are checked. Nothing would connect When the 'WPA2 Personal (without the SHA256) was left out.
