Cool that's good. Second is on all defaults but on HT40 (I don't think this is default?). Not really used except if I have a visitor who explicitly asks to be allowed on a 5G network (why when they only visit I don't know).
Downloads about 150Mbps last time I checked. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

Ok I have my USB-to-Serial adapter and a 1m USB extension cable. Thought I would have a quick look and check it is all working for when/if I need it.
I obviously need an addition to my *small* tool kit. None of the star/torx shaped drivers I have fit (one appears too big, another too small).
Before I go online and order some tools could someone confirm it is Torx bits I am after?
Also I will have to remove the antennae plugs to take out the board? _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

You dont have to remove the board, once ypu remove what i call the shroud, put masking tape over the attenas to stop them dropping out all the time and gently life the edge to fit your dupont connectors to the boards 4 pins.

Cheers for that. Off to buy a torx toolkit now and also a visit to spec-savers. Feeling blind as a bat at the moment. My prescription is nearly a year old and still using my old specs. Really struggling to see anything close up. ordered a magnifying glass with led too as I am sure to need it. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

Cheers, I might order one in any case. Might be good to have a backup with different chipset. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

Bit of a disaster for me.
Hoping it is a faulty USB adapter. Bloody eBay!
All connected but nothing appears in putty at all.
No debug text or anything.
Tried reversal of TX and RX wires but the same.
Settings:
------
COM 6
Baud rate: 115200
8 bits
No parity
1 stop bit.
Brown Lead: GND (router pin2)
Orange Lead: TXD (router pin3)
Red lead: RXD (router pin4)
Tried reversing pins 3 and 4 but no good. Same result of nothing.
I never installed any drivers as Windows 10 seemed to find them automatically and installed on COM6.
I also had to disconnect one of the antennae as my fat fingers would not fit with it connected. Connected back up with no issues though.
Considering ordering the different type of adapter but don't want to waste money if I don't have to. _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

How would I test this?
Just by connecting tx and rx together and seeing if what I type echo's to the screen?
If so when they are connected then my typing appears in the putty console. With them disconnected it does not.
So the serial/usb device is good? _________________ Router Model: Netgear R8000

In that case there is something wrong with the adapter or you are hoping it up wrong to the router.
The adapter is like the ones I use. Once I had a router that wouldn’t output anything to serial even though the router worked and the adapter worked on it previously and on another router. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
