wrt160nl-firmware.bin is a bigass 7,799,808 bytes but tis good and also since https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/40262
now the 160NL USB will mount to /tmp/mnt/sda1 rather than the silly /tmp/mnt/sda_part1 ... thanks BS

Reset & reconfig for WDS ---
I have 2 of these units currently setup with r40276 thinking of replacing my years old E2100L WDS setup.
Testing the 160NL with WDS-AP in back room wired to my local network and the WDS-Sta in office room wired to this computer.
Been tinkering with them most of the day. Looks like same ol loose wifi during sometime key renewal that I have seen on many builds for theses units over the years.
I now have both set to 'Key Renewal Interval' = 0 and that seems to fix it so far.
Been up now a couple hours. I always have Netflix going on 2nd monitor plus whatever else I'm doing on local or WAN and NOT a bleep yet. The only thing I see is this WDS seems a tad bit slower than the E200L units running r27506. Only mabybe 3 ~ 4 Mbps SLOWER and I have done everything I could think of...I even installed old r27506 on these 160NL units with same config and their wireless preformed a little better ....that made it matched my E2100L WDS setup
Prolly leave this as is and test for another day before I decide to replace the old WDS setup

Hopeless.
Had trouble getting it to stay up long enough for me to revert to working firmware.
But it seemed more stable when I disconnected the modem and then I mangaged to revert to r40009.
Edit: I'm thinking maybe a problem when using PPPoE WAN connection.

The r40276 WRT160NL WDS seems solid. Been up several hours now with NO problems.
I'm in the recliner with the laptap and just rsync several directories from the
desktop that's wired to the WDS-Sta......tis all good

WNDR3700v4 has actually been up with r40276 17:24 and I never have a bit of trouble with him.

I haven't tried going from Kong to BS on my EA8500.
Do ya think it would retain settings and work, or fail like r40270M?

I also have a WNDR3700v4, as a backup, running r35531.
Tried flashing r40276 no reset, started but no internet.

I run r39885M for week or so seems like without any problems.
Best I remember I run my backup main after that for while. I like to keep the 'backup up main router' up to date and with any changes I may have done within my network. I' sure I done a reset and reconfig sometime since using r39885M on it cause I also tinker with some BS test builds.
The other EA8500, one I use as switch was also prolly was reset since r39885M cause I was playin with Kong openwrt FW. However, I know it has not been reset in while now with many BS builds installed and Kong r40270M and back to BS r40276.
It hasn't caused any issues at all. I only use it as a WAN disabled, switch / ovpn server / samba share / VLAN on 2 its ports and it is nothing really important iffin I break it..... it's in my far back room with, most often, only the backup webserver wired to it. I have to be mindful not to tinker with it when I am switched to the webserver wired back there to it.
You already know you just have to try it and see for yourself. If it ws me and wanted a good outcome, I would install the BS build with plans to reset it after the install and reconfig all. That is of course the best to do it anyways. Me being me would throw in the backup main router to do such a thing mainly cause I have lots people depending on it ......and also my webserver. The webserver ain't nothing special but its been around for many years with lots other sites linked back to it ....... gets about a gigabyte per day going from it and I am proud to say you will never see any type avertisement from any of its pages.

BS or Kong dd-wrt firmware ??? That a really hard question.
Most will tell you Kong is better but that is only because he rarely if ever throws out a bad build. He does a bit of testing on most all routers he supports. AND it really depends on what you are doing and what kinda ISP setup you have. I don't ever have to worry with a stupid ISP modem. I just have the fiber box that will kindly accept, and work, with any type router device that has a RJ45 connection or could just plug computer to it and get WAN IP from router in their local office.
ddw-wrt is a learning experience for everyone, and still many of us old dogs learn something all the time

Sure looks like you have quite the setup over there.
I started off with dd-wrt using Kong on the Linksys wrt1900ac.
Then kong gave up on it and I moved to BS builds.
It was stuck on r31924 for a long time untll BS finally got around to fixing the v1 issue for that router.
I bought an EA8500 cheap locally and have used Kong exclusively on it so far.
If Kong eventally drops the EA8500/dd-wrt I will move to BS builds.
For now r39855M will stay put until a significant issue crops up.
I keep the old WNDR3700v4 handy in case the cat
kills the EA8500 - he likes to sleep on it... _________________ ------------------------------------

My R9000 is okay thus far...I did notice a weird thing. I have static DNS setup with Open DNS to filter content for my family. I used to be able to use CloudFlare on MY devices to bypass, but that doesn’t appear to be the case now. Forced DNS Redirection is NOT on. Do you have 'No DNS Rebind' enabled in DNSMasq on the 'Services' page.
About all I can think of... I really know nothing about the R9000.
I have 'No DNS Rebind' enabled and 'Forced DNS Redirection' and also using 'Recursive DNS Resolving (Unbound)' so anything connected here has to use that
No such luck. It appears to ignore all the dns settings. I’ve tried several combinations but the router always forces dns despite the configuration of the individual device.
