Damn, I thought I lost a router last night, just constant blinking, could not access, could not reset.
1900 V1 was on r40189.

After repeated power toggles managed to get it back to r40189 but when I tried to update to r40260 it just returned to r40189. Tried other recent builds with the same effect. Eventually went way back to last year's smaller builds and was able to update from there to r40260.

Had similar problems with other 1900's and 1200.

My 3200's upgraded without problem.

It appears that something in r40189 and other builds prevents upgrade to anything but the smaller builds.
In short I had to reset to default and then upgrade to a very old (smaller) build before going with r40260.

If it is indeed a size problem, could one upgrade using the "Factory-to-ddwrt.bin", and then install the full version from there?

In one case that is what I did. When I had so much trouble trying to put the new build on, I upgraded with the Stock firmware, then an old build, then upto latest. Found I could simply have gone to the old build, but yes going stock and upgrading progressively also works.

WRT3200ACM V1 r40206 Firefox 67.0.4 (64-bit) webflash

OpenVPN CLIENT works fine (nordvpn server)
5GHz wpa2 CCMP-128 (AES)working fine 20MHz Mixed
2.4GHz wpa2 CCMP-128 (AES)working fine 20MHz Mixed
NAS via USB Samba also working fine

I'm really becoming concerned by those with the 1900's having so much trouble. Perhaps we are reaching the point of "Bloat ware"? Or simply no valid worthy upgrades vs size of the firmware. I'm not seeing any worthy performance upgrades, but the firmware is getting larger for no (seemly) valid reasons.

Well, my position at this point is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My setup is pretty basic (no VPN), so my current version, R40134, does all I need it to do. The only issue I have is the unreliability of the "Scheduled Reboot" option, but I can live with that.

I appreciate that BS has updated the kernel and other baseline components, but until the wrinkles that have appeared in recent releases have been dealt with, I'm staying put.

P.S. I think at least one reason for the size increase is the updated kernel--it's just bigger.

Yeah, I'm about at that point myself. I don't think I'm going to upgrade anymore until something seems worthy.

I see a lot of ignoring tickets that folks place in the queue. BS, while I'm sure is working his rear off, seems to push aside a lot of the problems people bring up to him of current and passed issues. And I'm honestly not seeing any performance increases with new kernels and his latest changes. Seems to be getting in the way more then fixing anything.

so i went back to the previous firmware 7-4-19, and tried it upgraade it to current it wouldnt go

So i downgraded back to 6-27-19 using the console to flash and that worked fine.

So then i used the GUI to upgrade back up to the current from 6-27-19 and that also worked fine.

Just notes: figured id do it for the people having issues.

Updated WRT1200ac v1 from r40189 to r40260. Reported update success but no connection or UI available. Re-booted and came up with the r40189(8?) release up and running. I re-installed the r40189 just to remove doubts (installed as expected with no issues).

I've been running r40188 several days with no issues. I have noticed my streaming and downloading seems improved on the r40189 release if nothing else.

I guess this relates to the issue we had a few months back where the firmware was only able to be flashed into one of the partitions due to the size. For whatever reason one of the partitions is slightly smaller than the other. So this is probably either the same thing, or the firmware has exceeded the size of both partitions this time.

Have you tried backing up to 6-27 and flashing from that to the new one?

i know some of you keep the other partition with the stock firmware so i know this could be a problem for you guys.

If My memory serves, the stock firmware was a version that you had to open an online account for to manage somehow? Isn't that (IMHO) a serious security hole? Just curious why folks want to keep that?

I have both WRT32X and WRT3200ACM routers. While you can create an online account to manage your router settings, you don't have to. Keeping one partition on stock firmware makes it much easier to recover from a bad flash, or to change between DD-WRT and OpenWrt.

go to Administrator>Command (past this)

ubootenv set boot_part 2

DO NOT REBOOT and flash new WEBFLASH 40260 from Firmware Upgarad - DO NOT RESET...

restart Successful Flash to r40260 done.
working fine so far on my WRT1900ACS V2
