No, he answered recently in some thread, he had builds ready but when testing was not satisfied.

Just like the builds before the last one from BS which had multiple problems.

The most recent BS build appear to work, so I would expect Kong's builds based on that the coming weeks

A few days ago Kong said they aren’t done. It was in another thread.

so what's the best kong build for the 7800 these days?

Latest one is pretty decent.

Also, new QCA9984 FW:

https://github.com/kvalo/ath10k-firmware/tree/master/QCA9984/hw1.0/3.9.0.2

I'm new to the dd-wrt scene but not inexperienced with custom firmwares. There seems to be a lack for a standardized source of consistent information in this scene.

My question is: which is the latest/most stable firmware for the R7800?

    - Latest on kong's server: dated 2018-10-28
    - Latest on DD-WRT DB: dated 2019-07-04, build 40189
    - Most common 've seen on forum user's signatures: DD-WRT v3.0-r40270M kongat

If "DD-WRT v3.0-r40270M kongat" is the most popular I lean toward that; would someone care to enlighten me why I'm seeing this build so often? Where would I download previous builds?

I also understand kong is testing a new one; but until then, which should I go with?

Thanks in advance!

Hi flakie!
I'm using v3.0-r32470M kongat (06/27/17), and I would like to upgrade to newer kongat.

    - which version num. is the "stable" K3-AC-IPQ806X/ of 2018-10-28 ?
    - which version num. is the "test" K3-AC-IPQ806X/ of 2019-07-11 ?
    - is current "test" version a "normal" fix, or does it add new features ?

PS:
ONE more question :
I have difficulties in blocking the ps4 for my childs Smile...
is the KONG WAN Access restriction.. WORKING ? Should I need another version (BS) ?
If I give a name to the policy and save it, then it does not appear if I click "summary".....

Current test Version is DD-WRT v3.0-r40270M kongac (07/11/19)
This is what I use and have found no issues with it.
I would ignore the stable version (as test has improvements and fixes).
Not sure if kong adds anything in way of new features to his builds, but they are tested by him.
No idea about access restrictions as not something I use.

The Stable build is the last version using Linux Kernel 3.18 which had no latency issues. Kong's test builds are using K4.9 (So are BS builds as of Dec 10 2017) and have overcome most of the latency issues, but they still exist.

If you're running super highspeed "gig" internet from your ISP- I would suggest trying the test build and run some speedtests both wifi and wired and see how your bufferbloat scores are. If you don't have poor scores and consistently get an A on bufferbloat, then stick with the test build. Otherwise, switch over to the stable K3.18 and run tests again- things should improve.

But I agree that you should try and run the most recent builds as things are always getting enhanced/tweaked; though gremlins do get introduced from time to time.

The good news is that Both BS and Kong own R7800's and use them as daily routers, though Kong has made some tweaks for "gig" speed users to lower latency, while BS's router is not on "gig" speed and he hasn't taken notice to our pleas to fix latency, yet...

Thanks msoengineer for your kind reply.
Just two more questions:

1) the upgrade to kong test version is viable using the normal GUI web interface. Isn’t it ?
2) The strange behavior that affects my Wan Access restriction (policy NOT saved) is a known bug of Kong fw, of both BS and Kong, or maybe is just a problem with my personal installation ?
The problem of not being able to block the ps4 at certain time (of the night) is becoming important for me... Sad , and I would solve it even trying a different fw or version….
Any idea or suggestions ?

I am not flakie or msoengineer but:
Yes you can just flash test build from GUI or
From telnet or ssh just do
Code:
ddup --flash-latest

Coming from that older build you shoud do
Code:
nvram erase && reboot

from CLI afterward and reconfig manually, not from a bakup.

I am using/have used AR with BS and <Kong>.
Both work fine for me.
I always hit "SAVE" every time I add the next parameter and of course "APPLY SETTINGS" when I'm done with all the steps
Be aware AR will not kill an active connection, there is a fix for that I would have to look for.

Thanks bushant !
from you reply I understand both current BS and Kong are using new kernel 4 with latency fixes.
Is there any advantage or feature difference using BS o Kong ?
Which “good” version of BS should be compared with Kong’s test one, considering stability and performance ?

I consider from your reply that AR “should” work with both versions (BS/Kong), so maybe I have some corrupted memory bit,….
This would mean to copy “by hand” any configuration settings Sad I have in my current v3.0-r32470M kongat , after moving to newer version, even if the newer is still a Kongat.

Is there any other method of moving config to newer version, instead of copying the config by hand ?

Thanks in advance,
Giuliano

No, not fully fixed in BS builds as of 40501 still...
Kong has managed to reduce the latency by a lot, but it also still is present in his builds too. There is an underlying issue with K4.9 that has not been figured out yet.

The simple answer is if Kong makes a build for your router brand, then you should most likely use his builds. Why? Because he performs more thorough testing to assure it will work for his personal needs. He's very kind to share his personal builds for the rest of us and many people don't have the "luxury" of a kong build for their router. Kong has the ability to tweak the base of BS's commits and he can make tweaks to things/issues we find; but, the hard work is all done by BS. That's not to discount Kong's work/effort either, though. BS has A LOT of work to do and will focus on issues that will bring the most good across many devices. He does have some favorite devices that he does tweak time to time too, but he makes many of the core changes for the whole list of supported devices.

I don't use AR... use the search feature on the forums. Chances are your issue/question has an answer already.

And the reason we are telling you to re-enter stuff manually is because you most likely have an error somewhere causing problems. Normally you don't need to do this when you update builds. You have Gremlins and you need to reset your router to get rid of the Gremlins and start over. This happens to all of us from time to time...
