I recently upgraded my cable modem/router to a service that is 100Mbps (or better). When I did this the E4200 DD-WRT router that I was using between my internal network and the cable modem seemed to be a bottleneck.

As soon as I started using the ISPs modem as a full modem/router versus just modem (passthru), my overall performance increased significantly.

Now, I'm trying to get their stupid router to open up a port for my VPN connection to get through to my server... FAIL. Bottom line, I'd like to go back to managing my router (DD-WRT) myself and put their modem back to basic passthru.

Given there a many devices in my home that will be streaming via this 100Mbps connection, can I get some suggestions on DD-WRT supported models that can manage this load without being a bottleneck?

Price matters, of course, but I'm happy to start by looking at 'Cadillac' options...

Many thanks.

What build are you using? Flash 40065 and enable SFE (Basic Setup tab); if you have any further issues, do a reset and set up manually.

@kernel-panic69 is running an E4200 with 40065; don't use the current latest (40167) though. Always consult the new build threads before flashing.

40065 K3.x is still one particular commit short, but otherwise. I probably don't have near the clients connected as the OP. One thing I have not tested is overclocking to 533 MHz, only because I haven't added extra cooling. I also haven't tested any configs I could carry over to FreshTomato much, either Wink

If you can't get no joy out of the build I am using, I would probably suggest any device supported by <Kong> : http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/Supported%20Models

I didn't realize the E4200 has the same SoC as my WNDR4000, which I've been running at 533 since I put DD on it (...and a heatsink), in my first DD foray in spring 2015. Wink

Many OEMs run the 4718A1 @533 by default (they may have OEM heatsinks). /nudge

If the 4718A1 is the chip not under a shield, there is already a heatsink on it:

In my opinion the fastest best range router is aan Asus rt-ac5300 running.latest kong.stable built. Doest even her warm with my 300 meg down.link.

I would call.this the Cadillac. My budget highly functioning router is still.the r7000

I'm using a couple of Asus RT-AC5300 and may repurpose one... my E4200 is now running build 40065 as recommended. Good success! Thanks.

What is the latest build for the E4200 that is now recommended? (You mentioned a new commit that was still forthcoming after 40065)

Thanks for the support.

I'm currently running 40352 on one of mine. There are a few releases since that build, but I'm still waiting for the whole SFE / PBR / QoS / UDP forwarding issue to settle out.
