I have an Asus RT-AC56U running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/19/15) std build 26947. That build is also the initial flash, so I've never upgraded before. It's been running smoothly for several years now.

First, will I gain any benefit by upgrading to a newer build? I'm only using it as router, AP with 2,4 and 5 GHz, DHCP, DNSMasq and some port forwarding.

If yes, what build is recommended right know? I've found two build threads (r38159, r38507) from 2019 with users testing on RT-AC56U successfully.

When reading the wiki page it says not to do a 30-30-30 reset while the peacock thread says it's important. Any advice on this?

Would a firmware file with a name like dd-wrt.v24-38507_NEWD-2_K3.x_big.bin work on my unit?

No 3/30/30. Use only builds found in the folder for your unit such as ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2019/06-20-2019-r40065/asus-rt-ac56u/
Or you can use the std.bin found here. http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/ or the std.bin in the test folder.

Today I finally had the time to do the upgrade. It seems to work really well.

I used this .TRX file: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2019/01-29-2019-r38507/asus-rt-ac56u/asus_rt-ac56u-firmware.trx
I did a hard reset before and after upgrading according to the Wiki.
