I loaded up this build r39855M and aso erased nvram and manually configured both R7800s (2 hours to complete)

This build feels lagging compare to r398715M

Testing bufferbloat on r39855M I see 60ms (avg)
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/50310850

Bufferbloat on r39715M was 10ms (avg)
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/49891957

Is my wifi performance normal for an ea8500? All tests were done with the same desktop client.

You should be able to get a lot more out of the wifi... see my signature for best qca wifi settings and see how your settings compare. When you read that posting..scroll down more to read about the tweaks you can do to tx queue length... You should be able to hit high 500's & up to 650ish on 5ghz.... some settings must be bunked...

I also don't see vht160 as an option on the ea8500.

EA8500 don't do VHT160 Shocked
and
what dd-wrt build do you currently have running?
Kong builds have WAN & wireless interrupts mostly fixed -- BS builds do NOT.

You won't see VHT160 on the EA8500, it's a wave 1 router while the R7800 and R9000 are wave 2 which introduced VHT160...

Unless you've got an intel 9260 card, VHT160 is pointless.
Even with a 9260 card, its performance isn't all it's meant to be. VHT80 is going to be the best we can all expect for a long time until some new wifi standards/black magic is developed and gremlins worked out.

EDIT: VHT160 will be useful for Router to Router backhaul for the time being. Drivers for Intel are wonky to say the least, and Intel vs QCA seem to have compatibility issues for sure even with the latest drivers. Sad thing is only the Intel 9260 is out for a laptop to use...I haven't seen any generic QCA cards yet that you can use in a laptop.

@stephensuley- You can try running some custom commands to move the WAN interface over to the other CPU Core and force the EA8500 CPU's to run at full speed all the time to get the most speed out of the router.

See this post:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1166381#1166381

EDITED TO FIX THE IRQ from 255 to 100 for a EA8500
Startup command:
Code:
echo 2 > /proc/irq/100/smp_affinity

for CPUFREQ in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/scaling_governor; do [ -f $CPUFREQ ] || continue; echo -n performance > $CPUFREQ; done

The first command errors out..
echo 2 > /proc/irq/255/smp_affinity

-sh: can't create /proc/irq/255/smp_affinity: nonexistent directory
