Dear Experts

Sorry to post it here but I couldn't find the appropriate section for my question

Looking to use NightHwak D8500 with Express VPN and I have been advised that Express VPN firmware need to be installed.

Is the router up-gradable to use Expressvpn firmware ?

Customer support from Express VPN advised they haven't tested their software on each single router

The d8500 is not supported by dd-wrt.

Zillah - While the D8500 isn't supported and you cannot load DD-WRT firmware directly to it.

I encountered this problem several years ago and was given the same answer as you.

I did some investigation and discovered the D8500 has the same hardware as the R8500 the only difference between the two is the D8500 has an additional DSL modem module connected to the main board.

If you do not need to use the DSL modem you can convert this router to an R8500 and use any R8500 builds (Stock or DD-WRT)

To do the conversion you need to be comfortable opening the device and connecting to the serial connector.
