It seems the "best" depends on your setup. I have two WRT1200AC's, both v1. My network is fairly simple compared to others, 3 wired, 3 wireless (5 if I count my printer and BR player) with an OpenVPN client.

I've ran r35531 since it's release with no issues. New releases were installed but I would revert back to r35531 when wireless or OpenVPN issues would appear.

I installed r36995 on release day with no issues but installed r37012 a day or two after release on one of my 1200's. It ran with no issues (for me) so I upgraded my other 1200v1 to r37012 and have been running it ever since on both. r37012 appears stable for my network with my config, the first since r35531 so I will keep it for now.

Having said that, r35531 or r37012 may not be stable on your router. I have shortcut forwarding engine disabled, DNSMasq for DHCP enabled with 3 static DNS IP's and Forced DNS redirection enabled to name a few but these would not cover every settings change from default.

My OpenVPN client is setup per the instructions given by the provider. The only difference from the initial install was under Additional DNSMasq Options where initially the suggestion was "dhcp-option=6, x.x.x.x, x.x.x.x , x.x.x.x" but was changed to "interface=tun1". I reverted back to the first setting as it allowed all three of my static DNS's to be tested versus only one when I used GRC's Domain Name Speed Benchmark app. (https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm)

Good luck with your install. Hope you find a release that works for your setup. My suggestion would be r37012 with the newest OpenVPN & OpenSSL versions but . . . I can't say for sure that you won't have issues. After all is said it's really a trial and error exercise.

Sorry for dust off this post, but i have a similar problem...

I tried some "betas" versions, in last r38155 of 2018-12-31.

At each flash, the router boot on the Linksys firmware, i can't boot on DD_WRT firmware.

You just need an older build, try one from March 2018, if it doesn't work try February '18 and just keep going backwards until you're on DD, once there you can upgrade to the latest from DD.

I would also highly suggest flashing with a portable version of Firefox to avoid your daily browsing configuration (no add-ons, history, autofill, saved passwords, check for updates etc).

I flash one from March 2018 and it's works ! After, I update with one of March 2019.

Just one little problem with the WIFI. DD_wrt firmware allow everythings (and anythings). I'm not network administrator and i do anythings...
If you active "WPA Personnal" and "WPA2 Personnal", the spot dissapear.

The 2.4GHz band is OK ; but i can't connect to my 5GHz band...

Sorry to bring this thread back, but I was wondering, can anyone can report a solid release on a WRT1200ACv2 they stick to?

I am having a lot of wifi issues that seem to be driver related and am curious where folks seem to settle into good and stable router behavior on a v2, especially if it is a release in the last 2 years.

I have been using v3.0-r40559 std (Released in August 2019), and it has been performing very well for me.

DO NOT USE 40559...known issues and well documented across all the forum topics everywhere.... do not use the router database for suggested files to use.

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2020/08-02-2020-r44048/

This seems to be a winner on other similar hardware.

Topics such as this are best answered by researching the build release threads. Maintaining a one-size-fits all thread for every supported router is too cumbersome for the community in general, but if someone wanted to take that task on, have at. It is generally recommended to flash the latest release, but that is also frowned upon at the same time. The thing is, whatever issues there are will not be fixed unless you are flashing the latest release (per the developer).

This seems to be a winner on other similar hardware.

This is going to come across snarky and/or ignorant, so I am going to apologize in advance for which ever tone is inferred.

If users are not supposed to use the router database, why is it featured so prominently on home page?

If 40599 is such a bad build, why is it the first build listed when using the router database?

Seems like this combination is guiding folks to a place they shouldn't be.

We in the forums have complained to the powers that be, which we are not, about the router database for years. Everyone here agrees with you, but we don't have the power to change it, and our powers of persuasion have proved inadequate. So... we sympathize.

Seconding 44048. I've upgraded my WRT1200ACV2 to later versions, but problems have always forced me back to 44048.

i am also confirming r44048, compared to the others, as a more stable release for my WRT1200AC v2.
