this is interesting the future default mtu will be 1420 instead of 1500. i guess for now you can accomplish the same by setting mtu to manual and 1420 (setup page)

https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/38511

also found that there were nvram commits since 38340 so decided to nvram erase and reconfig. hfsc seems to be back as better in this build while last build it was htb

The default display might be 1420 but the actual number that will be used is automatically generated still (if that option is set.). Also 1500 will still be the set thing until you do a reset.
For most people that change does not do anything.

1500 is the Max MTU size, w/o doing jumbo frames. That said 28 bytes are used to carry info, leaving 1472 as the "real" maximum you should set. This is what I have been advising around here in other posts. I haven't tried setting things to 1420, but it may help with Q.o.S. latency and some of the goofy spikes we're seeing. Or it may have to do with some of the iOS/Apple issues we're seeing; much like how BS tweaked RTS down to 500. I did notice that going from 2346 to 500 latency increases in speed test. They key to everything is finding the happy middle where it all works.

I wish more focus was put on the linux kernel and the IPQ/Annapurna latency issues....but that's just me being selfish...

The 1420 are for tunnels, not for normal wan.

1420 is to set aside 80 bytes for the encapsulation to accommodate eop tunneling ipsec over gre (20 ip 56 ipsec 4 gre)

rts threshold to start 500 is ok but should be 534

edit: lol Kong beat me to it about the 1420 value

<Kong> You excited for AX12? Also would that fit this firmware or does that have a separate section on your website? Like the R9000. (Maybe this info is still unknown due to it not being released yet.)
2.2GHz quad core seems nice. I wonder how far we can push that 5Gbit/s port.

Anyway this firmware looks stable the speed is good, latency is good, 0 packet drops so far.

good finding about RTS/CTS back in the days i read something similar, and sat my RTS/CTS to 534 than
noticed downgrade on performance side it was on DIR 615
now on R7800 i don't use RTS/CTS Threshold (disabled)..and its ok and have no complains at all...
but its my experience if i can say so...i have many Wi-Fi clients on R7800 as it's an edge router in a student accommodation

p.s. compare to R9000 , AX8 is 350-400 pounds very overpriced i guess AX12 will be even more expensive... and the shape of it deff targets star wars lovers Razz...personally i doubt anyone to take advantage of it...
it may cause impotence too as your wife will cut your balls if you buy it for a home use...only... Laughing

While I love my R9000, I do have buyers remorse....The same will hold true for the AX12, especially since it's a wave 1 wifi6 device. For emotional emphasis, there will be like 2 commercially available devices/clients that will be able to take advantage of what the AX12 will have to offer (likely nothing for 2+ yrs realistically). With tablet/phone/laptop clients only being 2x2 it's a lot of hoopla and dough spent for nothing. But, if you get one free....

Upgraded R7800 from r38340M to r38500M and found that the Radio Scheduling failed this morning. At that time only the 5GHz band should have been active but both the 2.4 and 5ghz bands were On. I re-applied the settings and the 2.4 band finally dropped off so will check again later. I did a clean install for build r38340M so I’m thinking I’ll go back and do the same for this build later today.

EDIT/update:
It appears dissimilar schedules break the wireless scheduler, this one is done

The SES button is still not working (neither directly activated in the GUI nor using a script).
<Kong> Is the GPIO for Netgear R7800 missing?
