TL-WDR3500 firmware to overcome the FCC lock?

I've got 2 TL-WDR3500s that have recent versions of TP-Link firmware installed and throw 18005 errors when I try to install any third-party or old versions of the firmware. This prevents me from installing dd-wrt.

Does anyone know a way around this?

I've seen some postings here of modified versions of firmware for the Archer routers that can be installed and then overwritten, but does something exist for the WDR3500?
