 first post, I hope it is in the right section

Okay anyways, I been using dd-wrt for a quite some time now...

for the longest time when I first got this router I flashed it and updated and was done with it.

everything was working great...

Sometime last year I got a email saying something about security idr, and I should update my firmware, so I did.

I've been updating it regularly now, with the beta versions ofc. haven't had any problems until recently.

About a month ago.. I noticed every night around 2am my time. my internet will cut out then back on...

...sometimes its 8-10 seconds
and then...
...sometimes it takes up to around 5 minutes

I tried changing some things around and playing with it to fix it but no avail...

I thought maybe it was because my NTP Time Settings was disabled but with it enabled and syslog enabled I get no errors in logs to indicate anything but the timeout issue I describe still occurs. This can be frustrating if I'm in a game because I will breifly lose connection ( ha competitive gamer )

...anyways I have my modem and router bridged using the router as a gateway so I get a WAN IP and DHCP from the router via ddwrt

I thought maybe it could be my DHCP WAN lease renewing around that time
so I checked and verified its not It's set up as auto renew every 3-4 days not each night
currently while typing this it says Remaining Lease Time 2 days 11:13:20 ( even tho it just happened )
So no clue why i'm loosing connection every night at the same time.

I also read up somewhere that maybe raising my TCP/UDP Timeouts from 300/120 to 600/120. I tried and it made no difference.
not sure if that even apply's to my issue here or not or which is better to use Vegas or Westwood for TCP Congestion Control
I know the IP Filter Settings by default in ddwrt is set to use Vegas, but someone recommended trying Westwood. (for gaming)
Not exactly sure what's Optimal for gaming with Congestion Control Filter Settings. Still having the issue with either setting.

If Any other info is needed let me know. Thanks

Router: NETGEARvWNDR4300
CPU Model: Atheros AR9344 ver 1 rev 1.2
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r37305 std (10/10/18)

STAUS UPDATE: 11/24/2018

I got a new modem on blackfriday and hooked it up and downgraded the routers DDWRT firmware to what <labo> recommended when he has the issue to version: DD-WRT v3.0-r36330 std (07/16/18) and my issue has seem to go way, granted it's only been a couple days, but I enabled klogs and dont see any ports going down also no noticeable connection loss at all at anytime. my connection is fixed and stable again...Not sure if it was a DHCP issue as someone else mentioned in the thread or maybe the firmware itself or settings, either way having this new modem and old ddwrt firmware seems to fixed it, it might have been a bad modem but, now that I'm using the older ddwrt firmware and it works, I'm afraid to try a newer ddwrt firmware. either way this issue has gone away and my net is always connected now.

well if the issues is due to firmware and its ok with old builds, than its something wrong on firmware level..
otherwise it could be a bad settings, modem issues and ect.

if you use PPPoE WAN interface than try setting MTU to 1492 if this helps
i also use Vegas congestion control its fine...
NTP time its very important so keep it on and select
your time zone and you can paste this NTP time server
216.239.35.4 this is Google time NTP

apart of that any scripts you use anything else
look for details and check your settings again
do you loose conn on client level or your router go's off and no WAN at all it could be a bad setting or client issues than...
there are a newer builds try them too
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/

P.S. can you get static IP instead of Auto??
and yep try the newer builds if so
otherwise does connection goes off only on WiFI or LAN and all the router too
do you have HHD plugged in the router that drains too much power may be...
anyway if its not build related witch i doubt its very likely your ISP

I am wondering if you meant to say 1492?

I'm using AutoDHCP with 1500 MTU Requested by ISP.

as far as congestion control I find that westwood seems faster and lower latency by a little versus vegas, but this does not fix my timeout issue that seems to be on a 24 hour time schedule for some reason. No idea what is causing this.

Also

I have NTP synced and enabled with a military time server.

WAN DHCP set to Auto, and it will release and rewnew from ISP about every 4 days.

I set up a 7 day DHCP LAN to see if it would help it doesn't

Shortcut Forwarding Engine and STP enabled I tried with disabled but still seem to timeout 2am each night.

Maybe I will try different firmware in a few days if no one else has any other resolutions ? But I'd like to stay on a newer build for security purposes ...

I had the same issue on R9000 with latest BS builds, reverted to back to:
DD-WRT v3.0-r36330 std (07/16/18 )

Really? so this is a bug in the firmware after version r36330 ?

Just out of curiosity whats the procedure for downgrading a firmware I've never done that before.

I did some testing and I pretty much always get this result:
Code:
21.19    vegas
24.50    westwood
25.42    yeah
25.44    cdg
25.68    reno
26.08    lp
26.31    veno
26.41    highspeed
26.46    htcp
26.53    hybla
26.76    illinois
27.23    cubic
27.79    nv
28.95    bic
29.00    scalable
30.10    bbr

This is the "MEAN_RTT" from iperf3, 60 seconds per test.
Now just because I got these results does not mean you will get the same. So be mindful of that.

Now on topic of your disconnects, did you enable "Keep Alive"? This is in the tab administration.
I personally use Kong builds on my R7800 and have not seen this issue.

No I didn't mess with keep alive as I read that is used for VPN connections and I'm not using a VPN/Proxy.

Also My connection is stable it's only once every 24hours around the same time this happens, not sure if this is the last time my internet went out or the last time I upgraded my firmware but it happens every night around this time

I will loose connection to the router w/ no indication in logs what so ever its not DHCP related either.

sometimes its like 10 seconds then comes back sometimes its up to 5minutes.

I'm not using Kong because I dont think its supported on my NETGEAR 4300 I'm using DD-WRT v3.0-r37305 std (10/10/18) currently. might go back to July as someone said they had the same problem and reverted back to that build, but I dont know the downgrade process.

Also what is that test on how do I preform it? Is that latency ping ?

Find a server close to you, list is here.
Run
Code:
iperf3 -c 127.0.0.1 -t 60 -C vegas -J

Change 127.0.0.1 to the thing in the list, you can add -p to this to change port if you need to.
If it is giving you troubles telling something is not supported try nslookup the hostname and use the IP address instead of the hostname.
Change vegas to another one you want to test. There is a list you can access here:
Code:
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_available_congestion_control

Scroll up and find
"max_rtt": 428,
"min_rtt": 346,
"mean_rtt": 392

This is what you want to know.

Ok, So back to the disconnect issue. If you change the time does it do it at the same time still or is it different?

Ok I'll play around with that later tonight to see which is best for me, but do I need to change cognate control on my router as well from vegas - westwood etc while testing.

Also,
I guess I need to download it...

Do you mean the NTP Time zone?
if not no I haven't tested that either.

EDIT:

ok I downloaded and edited the system environment variables with iPerf 3.1.3 (8 jun 2016 - 1.3 MiB for Windows Vista 64bits to Windows 10 64bits)

"-C congestion" does not seem to be implemented yet under this build, and after reading the iPerf user docs it states...

-C, --linux-congestion algo Set the congestion control algorithm (Linux only for iPerf 3.0, Linux and FreeBSD for iPerf 3.1).

So going to rule this out as I'm too lazy to boot up a liveCD and test congestions for my router as I already tried vegas and westwood and both seem to still causing my router to loose connection each night around the same time.

I will note tho for me using westwood congestion control
my latency is a tad lower than if I was using vegas. Reguardless of congestion tho still having the reboot issue.

UPDATE: (Still unresolved)

Ok...
So I updated the firmware thinking this might be fixed by now in a newer build...

Currently now on latest
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r37582 std (11/03/18)

and guess what?
It's still doing it...

I even tried chaining the NTP Client Time Zone...
I thought I might have fixed it, but no even with +11 hours it is still doing it around 2-3am each night.

Like I don't get it?
Do I seriously need to do what @labo said and downgrade back to this July build "DD-WRT v3.0-r36330 std (07/16/18)" To resolve this really???

Do I honestly have to do that to have a stable working firmware???

Like what is going on does no one know how to resolve this issue??

Should I switch over to openwrt or even go back to stock firmware

Because there is no reason this should be happening...
Literally just lost a ACE in my CSGO league match because of this damn bug...

maybe the lease time of your dsl/cable modem is the cause , i seen such a bug where the leasetime was set to 1 hour and the cable modem did disconnect from the wireless router also every hour ....
