Hi all - so I've been having tons of problems with my R7000P (speed randomly drops to ~1mbp/s instead of 100, ping spikes over 2000 MS while gaming... etc). As such, I figured I couldn't do any more damage by trying a different firmware setup. Unfortunately, I was wrong... I'm pretty confident I made a mistake. The process I followed was:
1) Turn off computer wifi, connect via ethernet to router
2) Reset R7000P to factory settings (using UI)
3) Upload and update firmware using the K3_R7000P.chk file (from Kong)
4) Once this finished, it took me to the dd-wrt GUI. Here, I uploaded/updated firmware using the K3_AC_ARM_R7000p.bin file (I am least sure I did the right thing here)
5) I noticed I could ping the router, and connect to it via wifi (wifi name was like dd-wrt and the password from my router sticker worked). However, I couldn't access the GUI any more by navigating to its IP address.
6) Figuring a restart couldn't hurt, and since I needed to move the router back to the room with the modem anyway, I turned off the router, moved it back to the modem room, plugged it to the modem, and turned it back on
7) Since then, it's been stuck in some sort of boot loop (alternating lights flashing, can't ping it, no wifi network ever shows up)
Kong resolved an issue with this router not being properly identified yesterday.
I discovered I first had a problem when one of my LED lights was red. Are any of yours? When I checked the sys info data in the UI, my router’s model name was wrong. What’s yours?
I ended up flashing with the latest test build, not the stable build. But because of this previously bad flash, I had to get back to default settings before everything worked for me. After taking both of these steps, my router runs fine as a dumb AP.
The weird thing for me is that I get more AC devices connecting to my 5 GHz antenna when set to channel 36. I’m still trying to wrap my head around this one.

I’ve had it for over a year, and this was the first time I had any problems with dd-wrt. Kong does a great job.
Unfortunately I am unable to even get the router to start up anymore. The lights are stuck in some sort of boot pattern, and I can't ping it (connected via ethernet)

Not sure if this is what happening to you but I have found that some...usually older devices struggle/refuse to see most if not all 5Ghz channels in the upper band

If you are lucky it is only the DHCP which is not working.
Things to try: reach the router at 169.254.0.1
or set a static address on your PC of 192.168.1.8 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1
In the beginning of this forum there is a sticky thread about the R7000, there are probably recovery instructions.

Happy holidays guys I came across a problem with r7000p it took the initial flash fine but after that I flashed the latest one it worked but wouldn't allow me to connect to router ui. I then rebooted it and now it's stuck in boot loop. I have tried to reset and use tftp I do get a few pings but tftp doesn't work. I ordered the serial cable needed for it but I noticed in the logs for the 7000 the pinout is different anyone got the pin out for the r7000p model?
Heads up.....you are going to be scolded for that VERY BIG pic
Without seeing the whple board nore the other side.....it looks like the pin on the right is traced to a fuse....so that may be the +3.5v (if it is...stay away from that one!)
Use an ohm meter to see if hopefully only one ohms out to chasis ground to determin the ground pin
In most all cases if you never hook up what you determine is the +3.5v pin. You can swap around the other three without damaging the router or serial adapter....to determin the proper hookup
Or hopefully someone with concrete knowledge on your Specific model will chime in

Attached mu notes for serial for a Netgear R6400.
As far as I know (but I have never seen a R7000P) most Netgear routers are the same regarding connecting serial and debricking.
As long as you do not attach the 3.3V you should be good
