Currently I have release r35898, 07May18 installed on TP-WR1043ND v1.10. However, I am unable update to a new, old release nor go back to tp-link firmware. I have done a 30/30/30 reset- no luck.

Any thoughts on how I can resolve this? Thanks in advance.

If it won't update, you've been spared a problem. Here's the main thread for what you've described. https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=316454

@danielwritesback Thanks. The link you provided helped me solve the issue. I followed this method. All credit goes to @NewFace

A simple way to de-brick/unable-to-flash-new-updates on a TP-Link WR1043ND V1.xx.

Prerequisite

1. A windows machine to install TFTP server software.
2. TFTP server software to be downloaded and installed from here http://tftpd32.jounin.net/tftpd32_download.html
3. Download dd-wrt for TL-WR1043ND_v1xx, r33006, 35681, 35831, 36006 and 36079 from here: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/(Note: anyone of these releases will work- choice is yours).
4.Download TL-WR1043ND-V1-stripped.zip from herehttps://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B-pEMb4uQtg8eUN5RVFWekFIbFk
a RJ45 cable and your bricked 1043ND v1 router.

Installation

1. Remove power cord from router, connect router to PC running TFTP server with a RJ45 cable to any LAN port.
2. Configure TCP/IPv4 on PC to use the following IP address 192.168.0.66/255.255.255.0
3. Extract "TL-WR1043ND-V1-FW0.0.3-stripped.bin" from TL-WR1043ND-V1-stripped.zip. Rename it to "wr1043nv1_tp_recovery.bin" and place it in C:\Temp.
4. Launch TFTP server SW.
Current Directory: C\Temp
Server Interface: 192.168.0.66
5. Use a pin/paper clip and press the reset button. While holding it down, connect the power cord to the router. In about 30 sec there will be activity on the TFTP interface- release reset button. If no activity try again (worked for me on the 2nd attempt).
6. Wait for about 2~5 mins, the LED on the router will blink as usual.
7. Change back to Obtain an IP address automatically (see step 2)
8. In a new tab on your browser type in 192.168.1.1 and the TP-Link OEM web UI should appear.
9. Login, ID & PW for both is admin
10. From the upgrade page select factory-to-ddwrt.bin file from any of the releases you D/L earlier.

You should be on your way.
