What am I missing ?????

I have a WRT1900ACv2 running Linksys smart WiFi running Linksys 2.0.8.187766 firmware.

I download the most current dd-wrt factory-to-ddwrt.bin
for this router.

Do a standard GUI flash install.

Everything goes along fine. Install completes as
successful.

But when I point to 192.168.1.1, either before reboots or after, I go right to Linksys Smart WiFi as if I have not
installed anything.

If dd-wrt IS installed on other partition I sure can't
get to it.

Any ideas?

I read the install instructions that everyone points me
to but nothing works.

Clear your browser cache and/or try a different browser.
If that doesn't work you will have to upgrade in 2 steps:
first upgrade to a DD-WRT build from a few months ago - then to current build.

* See Tutorial Sticky for steps on how to upgrade twice and still keep Linksys firmware available.

Thank you so much for the quick reply.

I have tried flashing thru Edge, Firefox and Chrome.
Clearing cache and more. But I will try again.

I always use the "factory-to-ddwrt.bin" file only.

When you suggest trying an older version upgrade I should
continue to use the "factory-to-ddwrt.bin" only and not
the upgrade file right?

I'll go back a few versions and grab an older version of
"factory-to-ddwrt.bin" and try an install sequence with
it.

Thanks for the idea. I was concerned that maybe the
latest Smart WiFi version locked out the router ROM
somehow.

Nothing you did wrong. It's a semi-common issue with the later versions of DD-WRT.

When you upgrade from Linksys with the older version use the factory-to-dd-wrt.bin.
Once you have DD-WRT successfully installed - then upgrade to the latest (or whatever version you wish) with the webflash.bin.

If you use the webflash.bin from the DD-WRT GUI doesn't that put DD-WRT in both partitions? I ask because most suggestions I've seen recommend keeping one partition Linksys firmware. I really have no idea, I've always done the factory-to-DDWRT from the Linksys partition.

The factory-to-ddwrt.bin file is for use from within the Linksys GUI (Graphical User Interface) only.
The dd-wrt-webflash.bin is for use from within DD-WRT GUI only.

There is never a scenario in which you would upload the factory-to-ddwrt.bin from DD-WRT GUI nor the dd-wrt-webflash.bin from Linksys GUI.

If you flash a DD-WRT build from the DD-WRT GUI then you will have DD-WRT on both partitions.
The best way to avoid overwriting Linksys stock firmware is with the 'trick' I referenced earlier:
Quote:
Trick to Upgrade DD-WRT Firmware without losing current configuration or the need to return to Stock Firmware:

Using Telnet/SSH and the ubootenv set boot_part command (described below) it is possible to upgrade to a newer version of DD-WRT without the need to manually switch back to Stock Firmware Partition. All previously configured settings will remain intact.

1. Use the ubootenv get boot_part command to learn the current Partition in use.
2. Use the ubootenv set boot_part (1 or 2 – the opposite number returned in Step 1) command.
3. DO NOT REBOOT
4. In DD-WRT GUI – Administration Tab – Firmware Upgrade Sub Tab: Upload the new ’dd-wrt webflash.bin’ file for your Router & Hardware Version. MAKE SURE THAT NO RESET IS SELECTED.
5. After Firmware Upgrade is finished the Router will automatically reboot.

*You should now have the new DD-WRT upgrade on the current Partition and OEM Firmware will still be intact on opposite partition.

Thanks for the explanation, not sure how I missed that option for installing new releases. Thanks again.

Thank you spuriousoffspring!

I had to drop back all the way to a Dec 2017 version
but I did finally get an install. With googling, reading
and multiple failed installs I must have 8 hrs
wrapped up in this.

Don't know how much longer I would have held out.

Great weekend to you all Very Happy

If DD-WRT installed correctly with the correct firmware why don't you just make the Linksys firmware boot other part .... then we see if DD-WRT boots.
Should be a simple setting somewhere in the Linksys GUI that says boot previous firmware ---- that means boot other partition and it should if it has good bootable firmware

good luck

got the trick.. installed the
https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2017/12-04-2017-r33986/linksys-wrt1900acv2/

then searched for latest version in main site (https://dd-wrt.com/support/router-database/?model=WRT1900AC_v2) which is, by this date: Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r40559 std (08/06/19)

everything went fine, now is time to setup and test Razz Very Happy

steps to make this work, if someone is getting error while flashing just install the version from december 2017 or install linsys latest stock firmware then install december 2017: factory-to-ddwrt.bin
then get latest beta and install: dd-wrt-webflash.bin

that's all Wink

You may wish to upgrade to a much newer build before you get too carried away:

It is not my intention to hijack the thread, but the latest versions of the firmware for the wrt1900acv2 do not work well and they have problems to be installed. For example if configured as a repeater with these versions the virtual interfaces don't work. I had to go back to Dec2017 to get full functionality.
