i'm still running BS's r34315 from 12/30/17
everything works, is rock solid, no complaints.
i use a daily cron job to keep it time sync'ed.

while experimenting with later BS & Kong i noticed
builds got progressively worse after January 2018
when Encrypt DNS Enable* stopped working altogether.

so i just wanted to know have either of them done
anything substantially better during any of 2018
that will improve the performance of my wrt1200ac
even at the risk of some minor feature* wigging out?

i'm hoping some regulars here with a wrt1200ac.v2
will chime in, who've been regularly updating firmware
and can tell me what they've noticed this past year,
short the occasional buggy release they skipped over Wink
and which later 2018 build they currently favor.

the only real deficiency i've noticed with my router
is the 5ghz wifi power/sensitivity is disappointing.
i don't care about speed, just the SNR is kinda low
on anything >20' from the router. i'm sure it's not
my settings or environment.

after reading other threads, i have noticed that
DD-WRT v3.0-r35898 std 05/07/18
is considered a stable "goto" release for wrt1200ac,
but is it doing anything better than 6 months prior.

Yes. There have been a number of security related issues which have been incorporated since Dec 2017,in addition, work to fix existing issues such as WiFi related problems, . Specifically, as regards to updates for fairly major vulnerabilities in OpenVPN & OpenVPN which are now incorporated inside dd-wrt builds. These are DEFINITELY worth getting. Btw I had stayed with r33986 and did not go to r34315 due to the "fixes" made to deal with errors in it (fixes made after Jan 1, 2018).

disclainer: Btw since I do not run any WiFi on my wrt routers. I do not particularly follow changes which involve working on solutions to WiFi related issues = wrt problems.

You can check the Ovpn & oSSL versions in an installed dd-wrt version with this command entered into the CLI (Admin / Command)
openvpn --version

You need a build r36xxx or later in order to get the latest Ovpn [2.4.6] though I'm not sure when the latest oSSL [1.1.0i] version was incorporated.
But it appears that there are lots of serious issues with many (all) builds since mid May. e.g r36808 was very slow, difficult to change settings and 36808 would not do any backups for me on my 3200's. Which is a killer for being able to use it.

And at this point I can't suggest which of the builds after r36xxx will work for you. I had major issues with the general functionality of the r36808 build and I am working back thru builds trying to find one that will work well and be stable for me, And has the latest oVPN & oSSL.
