I have had a WRT 32X (not32xb) that was running DD WRT for months, but when I tried to update to recent firmware it would not upload past 1% and by following ssh guides I bricked my 32X pending access to a serial cable.

I'm hearing there is new nand hardware on some newer hardware revisions and changes were probably made to the builds. This most definitely corrupted one of my firmware partitions; the remaining partition failing is probably my fault.

The end result currently is a non initializing 32X that just blinks its power light. It never pings and when I take a PCAP off a device connected to the land I see nothing being said by the router at all.

Whoever is behind the 32X builds please be careful and consider forking builds as its pretty clear something changed here.[/img]

Any input as to what is occuring here would be helpful.

The issue I can see is how I define nandboot, and altnandboot:

nandboot=setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/mtdblock6;nand read $defaultLoadAddr $priKernAddr $priKernSize; bootz $defaultLoadAddr is how you define it.

You can't run :

setenv nandboot=setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/mtdblock6;nand read $defaultLoadAddr $priKernAddr $priKernSize; bootz $defaultLoadAddr

because it doens't want the equals sign after the variable you're defining.

it wants:

setenv nandboot setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/mtdblock6;nand read $defaultLoadAddr $priKernAddr $priKernSize; bootz $defaultLoadAddr

but it's also taking each semicolon " ; "and interpreting that as me wanting to execute a separate command, so it executes these commands separately:

setenv nandboot setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/mtdblock6

nand read $defaultLoadAddr $priKernAddr $priKernSize

bootz $defaultLoadAddr

so instead of writing the whole block to the value, it's not. Do you know how to set environmental variables with a semicolon without executing that command itself at the time?

Got it figured out, i had to use quotation marks when defining the values. Thanks for everything.

Just figured it out myself too!

For anyone who may need this in the future:

setenv nandboot 'setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/mtdblock6;nand read $defaultLoadAddr $priKernAddr $priKernSize; bootz $defaultLoadAddr'

setenv altnandboot 'setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/mtdblock8;nand read $defaultLoadAddr $altKernAddr $altKernSize; bootz $defaultLoadAddr'

saveenv
